R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Yes, you should create the account with "E-MAIL B" and you would get the $25 referral credit. The email used to order the phone is not important. The essential point is that email used to generate the referral code, BEFORE the phone is activated, is the same one used in creating account where the code would be entered.
💯. Well said

I kinda figured that's the case. I actually have cricket. I was going to do a self referral using EMAIL A...however, I'm not going to have that account anymore. I will have account B going forward.

Thanks.

I doubt it will be a problem because there were no options that specified size or carrier - if this is what phobio defaulted to it's really not our problem.
We should start seeing reports back in a few days. Some have sent them in already.

Honestly don't see how email correlated with referral codes. When you sign up for account, it doesn't even have an email or name attached; only the phone number.

Not a bad deal if you are OK with the ATT network, but after 5 years on Cricket I started having slow data speeds anf after three failed attempts of them fixing it i jumped ship to Total Wireless. TotalWireless runs on Verizon's network and as a simple comparizon to Cricket i now get 75-90mbps speeds vs 20mbps at best with Cricket. I was OK with 20mbps but when it went to zero is when i asked Cricket to fix it but they could not.

So why am i telling you all this? Well Cricket also has an iPhone SE 2020 deal. Their deal is a little different.

Forgetting the sales tax for the moment, Cricket is $50 for the phone plus $60 for the first month, then $35 a month thereafter for their most popular plan. That makes the phone plus year of service for $495 from Cricket.

Total Wireless has the phone for $150 ($199 less 25% off - see posted deal) plus $35 plan.
When you sign up you can join their rewards program and get points that you can redeem for two free months of service by entering a referral code. That makes the phone plus year of service for $500... but you are on Verizon's network instead of ATT.

The choice is yours, but you now make an informed decision.
The Cricket deal can be immediately changed to a $30 a month plan. Also, the phone is unlocked after 6 months --which is important to me because there's a 99% chance I will switch to another carrier at that point.

This means, that as a 6-month side by side comparison, the Cricket deal is $30 cheaper on the plan ($5 x 6 months); and $100 cheaper for the cost of the phone.

So a $130 total difference.

I am all for the faster speeds and reliability, but right now we only leave the house 1-2x a month for groceries ... and I just snagged the deep freeze on sale at Costco so there might even be less outings in the future. The point is, the faster internet access is a moot point right now since we have unlimited internet at home. Even so, I am still curious about Total Wireless and would like to know if their iPhone deal will unlock at any point (I thought that was rare/non-existant for total wireless).

Do you have to used the email address to create an account? I don't see the option during the process, just pick username

Got both iPhones today. Activated both online and tested the phones with a different T-Mobile sim, of course the phones won't activate. Phones activated fine with Cricket sim cards. Created the online account, added the referral code that I generated a couple of days ago. Got the banner saying the $25 credit will be applied after 60 days of active service. Downgraded both plans to $30/per month. Now I have a $30 credit on my account as I paid $90 initially when I made the order online.

yes, I agree, just a box for choosing user name, but maybe emails can be used as user names

People are saying sim card needs to be in for all six months. If taken out, the countdown timer for unlock starts. If the phone goes on airplane mode or switched off, does that apply to these also?

I'm not sure about the first part.
But regarding the 2nd part, I did the iPhone 7 deal back in February. I barely used the phones and usually charged them once every 2 weeks.
I successfully unlocked the 7's. So it doesn't seem to matter if you put them in airplane mode or if they are off.

The issue starts when you swap swims and it MIGHT reset the timer.

May be email address is not related to referral code.
After creating an account there is a place to go and manage emails. Primary email gets set to the order email. I changed it to referral code email, just to be on the safe side.
