R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Do they ship Saturday? I might as well wait till Monday in case they don't. Don't want to wonder all weekend if transfer worked if I place order today.

Sale might be over by Monday... or something better could pop up for Cyber Monday.

What happens if
1.The existing port in plan has expired , before the port in completes?
2.My Cricket order has shipped, but I feel like taking the opportunity of the Visible deal. Can I port in to Visible , if I don't activate my cricket SE.

Transfer Delayed
We are working with your current wireless carrier to confirm your phone number transfer. This can take up to two business days. We will contact you as soon as we have an update.
Was having some issues with this as well, even tho SD's numbers were all correct (confirmed via boost chat). Online, even when entering in the info for the 2nd line, it kept saying transfer delayed. I chatted Cricket and the agent was magically able to make it work.

online tracking now showing as "success"

EDIT: got cancelled an hour later

Can someone cut through the haze for me here?

I am EXISTING CUSTOMER with 5 line account

Can't I just go create a new account, buy a T-Mobile number from EBay, buy the phone for $50 + $60 + tax, and then be done with it when I put my wife's current SIM into the new phone and just let that new account expire?

What am I missing with all the hoops of the referral credits etc? I can get $25 off the initial purchase if I use a referral credit? Or don't I then need to keep that dummy account outstanding for 2 months on a downgraded 30 per month plan? Same answer if I try to do the self referral thing? I'm confused as to why I am going to jump thru all these hoops. I guess maybe the answer is that I can take that 60 initial credit I paid for, run the account out for 2 months in order to get a 25 credit on existing account and 25 into new account, and then try to merge them, or at least just grab the 25 on the existing account. Is that the angle? Just trying to defray the 60 that would otherwise be wasted?

Yes, buy a boost number, port, once you get the SE, take her sim and put it in the new phone.

Just be sure you try to change the address because it might see that you already have an account

was thinkign this as well
I think one of the risks is they have your CC, and can charge you $200 esp if you DO NOT port in your number ever
anyone have any experience regarding the latter - that is if you never ported your #, what happened ?

for (1) you might be on the hook for $200 as the price without porting was $249
I have no seen or heard anyone report this but it is possible and probably enforceable per T&Cs

Change the address when? Once I get the phone? Maybe I will just use my wife's name as she has different last name. I would be surprised that Cricket will go back and really try to square up. They will obviously always be able to see that we added the new phone to the existing account rather than activating it over at the other account, or I guess I could activate it anyway and the immediately drop in the existing sim and just let the old account die in a month.

But my question was on all the referral hoops and what that is trying to achieve. Is it just to try to recover some of the 60 dollars that we paid for service for the dummy account that will otherwise be wasted?
