R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Okay thanks. I just haven't taken the time to read 190 fricken pages of comments. Usually I do my homework on SD but this was too much.

What is the 20 dollar banner thing sorry?

As for address I get that there is a risk but I would think if it allows me to check out then I would be good. I will try using her name which is different last name and her credit card. Worst case I could use father in law name and address not far away I guess but then I need to get him involved which is never worth the hassle (would need to use his credit card and I think he locks it to his wrist with a handcuff)
Load the phone and plan to your cart. At the cart page, just wait for like 2-3 minutes and a banner with $20 off should pop up. Click Apply.

Look back a few pages if you want the actual code. People posted the code but you have to find where to put the code at checkout

Regarding your edit, yes. You are risking missing out on this deal trying to get that $25 credit
Sorry now I am confusing myself. Should I not even try to do a referral from my existing account to the dummy account? (Because it may add linkage if Cricket is trying to show that I am not a new customer?) or are you just saying I can grab the 25 referral in the existing account but don't bother trying to recover the second 25 referral in the dummy account if it actually appears there?

Go here to speed things up. Enter your order number and the second phone number you are porting.

Thanks for the link. I entered acount/pin for my 2nd number as well, and it shows I'm all set now. Do you know how soon I should expect a shipping confirmation now?

You can try but if you just want the phone for your wife and you are already on cricket, I would not risk it since you would be self referring yourself. A few people have self referred themselves but who knows how strict cricket is.

Again, you are risking missing out on a cheap $100 iPhone se by chasing that $25 credit.

That's just the way I see it. I know this is slickdeals but I'd much rather have the cheap iPhone

Wow, you had a great rep. Did you make an appointment in order to do this?

From the store? I don't think they care, but yeah this is the most I've traded in. The guy was like what do you do for a living as I put all the phones on the table haha. It's a great trade in deal.

No, but I noticed Apple changed things with shopping, like you need appointment for that. Yeah the rep was great.

Mind me asking what you plan on buying? I'm thinking if I should upgrade to the 12 pro. I already have a MacBook Pro but have been thinking of getting an m1 as well

I wouldn't be brave enough to bring in more than 2-3 phones at at time for trade in... Which is why I'm either selling it locally first and if I can't get the price I want, I'll just ship it off to Phobio (Apple trade-in partner).

Maybe a iMac later on. I need to figure out how to put all gift cards on one card. I have other gift cards to from trade ins. They limit 8 cards when buying something.

Yes, it went through second attempt, same phone and pin.
