R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Yea, I see that. I've read all posts and there's so much conflicting and unclear information. I'm a current Cricket customer and am trying to figure out how to unlock without having to pay for all 6 months.

1) Activate new phone with new sim and then switch to my current sim for the remaining 6 months? (some have said this doesn't pause the clock, including a post from someone who spoke with Cricket rep)

2) Activate new phone with my current phone's sim and leave it there for 6 months. Activate the new sim account with my current phone and keep active for 2 months for referral credit.

Appreciate any recent first hand experience...thanks!
I'm a current Cricket customer on the grandfathered plan. It seems like Cricket wants the phone active with 6 months of service as opposed to the new number being active for 6 months.

Here's what I did with the last iphone 8/plus deal. Activated the new sim in an old Cricket phone. The only reason to do this is to get the referral credit on my original account. I took my existing sim and put it in my new iphone. the countdown started and my account now shows 82 days left to unlock my 8 plus. I also purchased this iphone SE deal. I added one of my other active sim cards to the phone today and the unlock counter shows 179 days remaining.

No wait for 6 months, buy it and you can go trade it in immediately

Pay $90. There's a coupon that pops up at top of cart if you let it sit for a few mins. The actual code is in this thread a few pages back.

Shouldn't we hold on the activation for few weeks if the device countdown starts from order date? How long you can hold the activation?
Has to be activated sooner than 30 days according to the cricket chat lady.

No, it's not. It's the coupon code to take $20 off (enter at cart) or wait for the $20 banner to pop up (3-5 minute, same code...)

Frown missed it and placed order, anyone got opportunity to contact support to apply the coupon retrospectively?

Wait till tomorrow to see if 179 becomes 178. Many are stuck at 179.

Highly unlikely... Just hope your port number doesn't go through and it'll probably end up getting canceled laugh out loud

Contact support to cancel your order and reorder it. I tried to apply the coupon afterward but they did not allow that. So I canceled my order.
