Yes, I have them in my "save for later" . It's been there for about 5 years...

Except for the moon, you wont' see anything "bigger". You'll see a whole bunch of stars you can't see with naked eye.

... and it takes practice to find anything at all. Not for kids or the impatient.

It's fun and it looks great. Great gift, unless you expect the person that receives to actually use it. My wife lets it stay in the living room. I was surprised by that...
I bought the StarSense Explorer 114mm for $179 but it came with only 2 lens and no filters , so I think this one you get more out of it. BUT I just saw the actual link it this one doesn't have that app that would navigate your sky objects. The mount is to take pics and vids from your phone, which is very hard to center and take a good picture but doable. The one I have tells you how much to move up or down and pin points the sky objects to the precise spot once your align it correctly. Look the StarSense model and compare their features and go from there. I would definitely go for the StarSense models since both almost the same price.
Well you mount your phone to the telescope and it finds your position once you align it with the StarSense app by celestron. Once you use the app, mount it and align it, it tells you exactly how much to move your scope and whatever you're looking for, it will appear on your eyepiece

I always wanted one. Don't know much about them. Is this a good buy for beginners and will it get outdated in few years? I use SkyView Lite on my phone. It's great.

lol Smilie I landed up buying one just coz it's from Costco and seems like a good deal based on price I see at Amazon. Will give a week or two and see how it goes. Sometimes, that's the easiest way. Worst come, return back to local Costco. Worth a trip .

Thanks for finding/posting this! We just ordered this exact same scope from Costco.com literally 2 days ago. Just requested the price adjustment through their online customer support. Hopefully there's no issues with that, and I don't expect there will be. Getting $40 back is excellent as the price was already $80 less than Amazon to begin with Smilie

Any recommendations for better eye pieces?
Our goal is to get the absolute BEST view of the moon we can with this scope - and then anything else like Saturn's rings and so forth is just a bonus. But we really are looking to spend some family time around the scope with our 4 boys and want them to see a close-up view of the different phases of the moon. Can't wait!

For now, I say use what it comes with. They will be kellners (I think)... but at least see how you like them first.

As for what to add ... you probably could use an inexpensive barlow (if it doesn't come with one). Then go with a plossl or two, or a zoom. There is a 7-21 and 8-24 svbony zoom that seems to be getting decent reviews over at cloudy nights... and celestron/meade makes 8-24 zooms as well (although pricier).

Your kids may get a kick out of 'zooming' in on moon features. Although keep in mind the scope would still need refocusing after each zoom, but at least you wouldn't need to constantly swap eyepieces.

Thanks a ton for the suggestions - found a 2x and a 3x Barlow today on Black Friday deals on Amazon - total for both is ~ $25. So starting with those - saw the moon tonight with just the 9mm kellner and loved it already. Can't wait to get the Barlows in and get some more enhanced zooming too. As a family, we're going to get the kids out a lot and we're going to do our own map of the moon. We're gonna document all the phases of the moon as it changes, and we're gonna write down all the various craters etc that we can see with the scope. Definitely going to get a lot of use from this thing. Thanks again for the suggestions, much appreciated.

Download sky safari for your phone or ipad, and it'll help you find other targets too.

Although not the ideal time, Saturn/Jupiter should still be visible most early evenings... Mars is still around although don't expect much out of Mars.

Pleiades and the Orion Nebula are also out this time of year, both should look nice in that scope.

Newbie here -
Any guidance for phone apps and related hardware needed , so we can find the star quickly and learn more details about the stars

I thought bundle included this feature , but looks like the phone adapter is only to record the pictures and not to find the starts themselves.

Since this is now out of stock, does it usually go on sale again after Christmas?

I have the celestron model, with the same features and its so awesome and easy to use. Just need a smart phone, download the app, follow simple instructions and you can look at whatever is available to see your area. (YMWV in light pollution areas)

Can you see mars? (Not just a bright dot) And Saturn's rings?

Definitely see saturns rings and a few moons, they look like tiny stars next to saturn. Mars yes but it's moving away from us so you won't see any grand details on it but you will see a red dot and a white color from the northern ice cap

Also in a few days you'll be able to see saturns and jupiter in the same eyepiece...that's how close they be and there's definitely details on jupiter too. and if you're lucky, you may see jupiter's red spot if the timing is right.

I think I bought this exact one few years back from Costco for $150 or at least it looks the same including the additional accessories and color profile.

Do a quick youtube search on this StarSense telescopes... basically a kid can find any deep sky object by picking something some the database and then the tells you to move it and then stop..and it appears in your eyepiece. It's very very precise. The only downfall about this is that you can't mount a camera to take pics. You can only mount a adapter for a simple smart phone have both phone lense and telescope lense align perfectly (which is not easy) and then take pics from your phone.
This version doesn't have the StarSense and you cannot do it with the phone. The phone adapter is attached to the Eyepiece to take pictures. If there was StarSense with phone, it will be great deal.

It doesn't include the StarSense, so no way to use the phone to navigate. I wish it had this option.
