The S5 is an older model. The S6 Pure is a great vac for those who have a multi level home, or a mix of hard floors and carpets/rugs, and don't want or need sophisticated mopping capabilities.

(By "sophisticated mopping capabilities," I mean an electronic water tank that is controlled by the app, allowing you to create the things like "no mop zones." For those features, but the S5 Max, on sale for about $80 more than this deal.)

If you have only hardwood floors, or only very tight outdoor-style rugs, or only a small 1-level home, then there are cheaper models than this (like the S4 or E4) that may suit your needs.

I have no desire for mopping, but I bought this S6 Pure last time it was at this price because it made it cheaper than the S4 Max. I just never installed the mop. It's been awesome. Highly recommend Roborock.
Got this in the last deal. The setup process was slightly cumbersome. Some things to watch out for:

1. You need to use the Mi Home app. The Roborock app wasn't working (at least for me).
2. Your wifi SSID has to be alphanumeric characters only, and you have to connect to the 2.4GHz band, if your router is dual band. If you have a mesh router, it should auto-connect to the 2.4GHz band.
3. You need to give the app precise location permissions (otherwise it wasn't connecting to wifi successfully).

After the setup though, I'm fairly happy with the performance. The app isn't very polished, but it does its job. The LIDAR is definitely nice though, the mapping is fairly accurate in terms of boundaries, and drawing boundaries in the app is usable. Haven't tried the mopping feature and don't intend to.

The hardwood performance on rtings is much better than the Roomba 960, which made me gravitate towards this one, that and the zone mapping feature.

We've had the S5 for almost a year now. Absolutely love that thing. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the Neato D series it replaced. If you're in the market, this is a great deal.

The amount of deals on these and different types of robovacs is mindnumbing. Anyone have a strong suggestion on any of the current deals (I have no cap on price, just want the right one for my wife / Christmas gift).

2 level home, mix of hardwood and low pile rugs, no need for 'off limit zones', and I would use the mop feature, but it seems like everyone says it just uses water.. The i3 self-emptying been seems like a nice feature, but I don't mind emptying the bin out every few days.

others?

Also, does it make more sense to get TWO of the lower tiered robovacs and have them run on their own floors; or just use one for both floors?

If I don't need mopping, which is preferable, this or the S4 Max?

Can this go over the transition or Lip that connects hard wood flooring to carpeting and vis versa. The Transition piece or Lip is about 1/3" maybe?

Thanks

I've heard many mentions of Roborock being better than Irobot, is this actually true, or is it just a better value?

Also, is the mopping on these or any small robot kind of gimmicky or does it actually work decent?

Our S5 would easily go over the transition from vinyl tile to ceramic. It would also easily transition from ceramic to the the bath mats and back multiple times with no issues.

I think s6 pure may be best for you based on your needs. Roborock's app and tech are very polished. Their robots are very smart, feel like using an iphone, if you get my drift... If you think you will mop then S5 Max is best. Either way, you have until 1/31 to try if you get it from Amazon.

Thanks, what about the S4? That has been < $300. Don't need multi-level mapping either.

S4 regular is bad with medium/high carpets and rugs, you want the S4 MAX or the S6 Pure in that case.

I personally use the S4 (non MAX) but I have 99% hardwood and tile, no carpets and rugs. I have 1 small rug in the kitchen and it gets stuck on the corner of it so I just move it aside when its cleaning.

Pretty much all these robo mops have the same method: squirt some water out of a tank and then drag rag/squeegee over it. If you have a pretty clean floor to begin with then I would say its adequate but I personally prefer using a real mop with chemicals.

This is only $5 more than the Roborock S5 a few months ago. This vs S5: This has slightly more suction, a slightly smaller dustbin, slightly larger water tank, same battery but slightly better runtime.

Thinking about getting this since the S5 seems like it may be discontinued and OOS everywhere.

The S5 Max has better suction according to Vacuum Wars. S6 Pure was rated okay, but overpriced compared to the others according to Vacuum Wars.

I'd get the S4 Max or The S6 Pure (because the S6 Pure is on sale, and you can just not install the mop, the way I did). Functionally, they are pretty much identical if you ignore the mop.

I would never use one of these mopping features on hardwood floors. They just drag plain water across your floor, which is terrible for hardwood.

Sorry may be dumb question but can we use bona floor cleaner in the water tank and use that for mopping instead?

Its not officially supported (ie they will probably deny any warranty claims if they detect any chemicals in the filter or lines) but some people on reddit have had success with mild cleaning solution diluted with water.

I just got this one a couple of weeks ago and it's pretty good. The LiDAR was what sold me, It maps perfectly my home vs.the camera system on the Roomba. Also it works in dark rooms/areas.
