I have a pro and a V2 along with a few others. V2 its basically a pro with a few more upgrades. IMO it's worth the extra coin if you can get it on sale. Keep an eye out as it's been on sale twice in the past two weeks on Amazon for $236.00 and for some as low as $211. with Black Friday and Cyber Monday coming up you might get another crack at a sale.
I was looking for the V2 version but don't know anything about these. Should I go for this? First time 3d printer guy here.
Yes, there are many free slicer programs to choose from: Cura, PrusaSlicer, IdeaMaker, etc. The slicer software will take your Thingiverse .stl model and will generate gcode which is readable by this (and most other) 3D printers. You just have to configure your slicer with your printer's (and your filament's) parameters for it to output correct gcode. There are many profiles available on the Internet for a particular printer's use in a particular slicer software. You shouldn't have a very hard time finding one for a well-known and widely-used printer like this one.

Reading the specs, it lists the following -
Compatible Software: Pro/E, Solidworks, Siemens UX, 3DS Max, Rhinoceros 3D

I have never had a 3D printer, just used one at the library. Isn't there free/cheap software available to use to load designs to the printer? For now, I'm sure I will mostly be just downloading designs from Thingiverse and not doing much of my own new creations.

I got this on prime day when it was this price. It's a great printer, but if you've never used one be prepared to troubleshoot. Also, there's a ton of upgrades you can make to it (both using the printer itself as well as buying them).

Man! I've been watching Amazon for a deal on this and haven't seen anything. How are you tracking these deals? I have an alert on Slickdeals and price check every day on Amazon...

I set an alert for "Creality". There has been a deal on the V2 in September, October and November (not all Amazon though).

Mine was from Sainsmart and shipped and arrived quickly. Assembled well and it is running perfect (was $225 after coupon, and no tax for Texas - so even cheaper than previous FP deals).

For this particular deal, I saw it this morning as I check Woot every morning for deals. Unfortunately with Slickdeals, you have to really rely on other people to post deals which introduces delays especially for limited supply items that are sold on Woot.
