The last "free line" wasn't free, and made me lose my grandfathered plan, even though I was promised multiple times it was fine. Proceed with caution.

It was free for me. And still is. And I've been in a grandfathered plan for years. Didn't change mine. Aorry about yours.

I;m going to say you got a bad rep.... I have an old SC plan, at least for 7 years and a few months ago brought my SO over to my plan from her t-mobile plan. took 5 minutes and my plan did not change.

Note that you cannot do a COR for a grandfathered plan. A new, currently available plan will need to be started. I ran into this problem trying to switch the account holder from my father to me, after he kept making very stupid account changes without consulting with more tech savvy users.

Think most are doing the pixel 4a. 50% off for adding a line and free if you also trade in an eligible device.
Thanks I was thinking of the PIxel 4a or the OnePlus phones.

On another hand I am wondering if I should just wait for better free line deals with phones - not sure if the whole iPhone thing is over but my account already has like 9 voice lines. I can only do 3 more - not sure if i should hold on to those for later.

Any reason why the Pixel offer WOULD be included then? I read the fine print on both deals and they simply say "add a line" -- not "add a paid line." I definitely don't doubt you or the OP -- just wonder where the difference lies, and how/why T-Mo would enforce that.

I'm not a risk-taker by nature, so I'll probably go get my $200 at Costco today and wait for the dust to settle before doing any phone deals. I'd love a free Pixel if I can get it!
Trust OP! Mentioned on post: "It will stack with other phone promotions not listed in the ineligible list like the free/half off pixel promo". I am going for the free pixel after I go to Costco. I will call T-Mobile and trade-in the S7 and get the Pixel 4a free

Hi all,

I just chatted with a nice T-Mobile rep and he added the free line for me. I have an older
Simple Choice Unlimited Promotion. I asked if I could get the Pixel 4a 5G with the 50% off promotion using the free line. He confirmed that I could.

I have a Pixel 2 that has been sitting in a drawer not being used, so I asked if I could trade that in and make the 50% off offer free. First he said no but then he checked and said he could do it.

I ordered with him over the phone. He waived a $20 fee for activation. I paid $40 upfront (the tax and sim card $30 + $10) and the phone will be here in 5 business days. There is no tax on the new, free line. There is only a regulatory fee of around $3 per month.

So, I added a free line, got the Pixel 4a 5G for free, and can use the phone on my current line and have the free line for use for another family member if I want. The other added benefit is that I kept my current line free for any future promotions that may come up over the next 24 months if I decide to take advantage of it. Oh...and the Pixel 2 will add another $18 credit to my bill.

I kept having the rep confirm the details and reiterating that everything would be as discussed. He assured me that it would. I am hoping for no hiccups or worse.

Good luck to others here who are hoping to take advantage of this deal in a similar way.

also being told by the rep that 50% off with partial credit will work with Add a FREE Line, but not the whole free phone. And they are "Checking" what can be done. I also did not see anything about "paid line" needed vs a a new line.

Yes. You can do this. Ask Tforce to move a number over the free line. You are essentially just swapping the number on the free line and keeping the line intact for the promotion to be valid.
It essentially the same as porting over a number on the free line.
No, you can't do this.

Check my scheme please?

Objective: maxmize AAL bonuses + get an iPhone 12 Pro Max without monthly bill credits.

Steps in sequence:
1) Go to Costco and add a line on TMO to get the $200 Costco offer:
https://slickdeals.net/f/14602288-costco-add-a-line-t-mobile-byod-get-200-costco-shop-card

2) And same time as #1 - get the Tmobile $100 port-in rebate
https://www.t-mobile.com/offers/p...onaloffers

3) Go to Apple.com & purchase thru the Apple/TMO Addl $150 on top of $450 trade-in offer for my iP11 Pro.

So net is: $200+100+150+450-1099 = $199 for an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Question - do I have to put ANY phone on the new AAL?

I don't see anything wrong on paper - but I am not sure if I want to open myself to potential hassle. My biggest concern is Costco bumping me off my plan when adding a line.

I just got off the phone with them. They said since I just switched I have to keep the plan for 1 month then on the next cycle it will switch back. I, however, think what you said is true and it will be a headache to get back my two free lines and my old plan.
There is hope for you though to be honest, happened to me about 4 years ago when the free lines started getting handed out and the original hookup discount came around. I switched my grandfathered plan and it was hell trying to get it back but I eventually elevated it higher and higher up( never had I had to do that before) and this person, which I'm assuming was a manager of all the supervisions or higher, did the change back like it was nothing after dealing with customer service for hours on end. My advice is to call back and get it memo'd/notated on your account. I do this everytime I make any change to my account regarding add a lines that are free and never do I change my plan again. If I can't add a free line on my account, I pass on the deal cause I rather not go through that again. I would speak with a supervisor now and either confirm that your plans not changing and all your lines will still be free, most likely they are going to say something different or tell them that it is tru you can switch back to your old plan like the previous rep said. Don't forget the note in your account, most important thing of all. Goodluck!

I've heard of unintended plan shifts - but on the TMO side - not Costco.
Have you had a different experience?

Just got back - took like 45 mins - was 2nd in line - first in line was just asking about existing promos -

Took 45 mins because rep wanted to call T-Mobile to make sure it's free. That took a while... Plus agent is new so need constant help from better knowledge rep. Funny thing is, after me, everyone came in just to add a line and Costco agent no longer need to call T-Mobile to verify. So their is much faster ....

I have T-Mobile ONE - and this is my 12th line.

I just hope the new agent enter the correct info on the rebate. One line says "activated permanent phone #" but he entered my main account existing tel#..... not the newly activated number.... anyone know?

Now I just need to do port in - in a few days - I wanted to make sure Costco $200 worked.

It would have been 50% off with the added free line only. He was able to apply my Pixel 2 as a trade in and make the offer for the 4a 5G free instead of the 50% off. So the line was free and the phone as well.

I added the line at Costco, and ported a number while adding the line. This way, I don't have to deal with a temporary number and have one number which is the ported one.
Brought my unlocked phone and the IMEI was input while adding the line. The same was transferred onto the paperwork generated for the rebate.
I got the rebate paperwork from Costco Rep. Will be submitting that shortly.
I will submit the T-mobile rebate a little later, maybe tomorrow.
I should have taken this same path too. This makes more sense to me since if we port in a new # afterward, it may disqualify the $200 Costco rebate since the # we submitted no longer existed. Thoughts?

How long can you remove a line after adding this free line? I plan to drop a paid line off but believe that you can't drop off a line within certain time frame.

Which plan do you have exactly? I have the SC unlimited 4/$150. Is this the plan you have? I'm trying to take advantage of the free line but I know usually we are excluded. TIA.
