The x-box comes with real dolby atmos for real speakers. This is simulated Dolby Atmos for headphones only.

You can. I have it installed on two computers and use it with multiple headphones on those devices.

EDIT: I wouldn't pay for this. I received it free with a headset purchase but it's not that much better than Windows Sonic. For $11? Maybe worth it but I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

I just did a quick test of both Atmos and DTS. Testing left right audio was useless as off provided sufficient information. Depth (distance from me) and angle (above or under me) were the values I ended up testing. I thought about making a more detailed youtube video, but since SlickDeals brought this deal to my attention I figured I would share my early results and then let you all tell me if it's worth making an longer video.

Headphones: Corsair VOID wireless and ATH-MX50
Game: Assassin's Creed Origin. Selected because it is marketed as a game for Atmos for headphones.
Method: I went into a city with a lot of ambient noises and found a donkey. With my eyes shut I ran away while pressing left and right and spinning my mouse for 5 to 10 seconds. I kept my eyes shut and then when the donkey started walking I would follow the sound and try and track back to the animal.

I repeated this for off, sonic, Atmos, and DTS for both headphones.

Then I climbed a building and stood by the edge. With my eyes shut I waited for a hay cart to come by and tried to jump into the cart.

Again I repeated this for all four for both headphones.

Results: Keep in mind the subjective nature of this and the very limited testing sample.

Overall sound quality. While the overall sound was marginally better with any 3D sound tech vs off I couldn't really tell much difference between the quality of the three options.

Non-voice sound effects had a better sense of depth with DTS than the other two 3D solutions. Noticeable but not significant (subjective use of the word, not statistical). I was repeatedly closer to the hay cart with DTS than the other two options.

Voice sound effects were identical for characters that were walking about, but there was a sense of distance. NPC yelling from a fixed point were very strange as their volume seemed to increase as I moved farther away from them until I could no longer hear them. This negated any depth information their sound provided.

Conclusion. Overall the distance a sound was coming from did seem improved with 3D sound enhancement vs off. In limited sampling no single 3D sound solution seemed the best. Angled sound was less impressive. DTS did seem the best of the three but more so when trying to locate birds above my head than people under me. In both above and below testing it was an acceptable improvement but not impressive.

This limited test suggests that, for gaming at least, Sonic is sufficient for improving sound.

Let me know if it's worth me taking the time to try more tests.

So this "enhancement" will work with any headphones?
Yes any headset works. Only a certain number of games use it thoguh.

I really want to know how this compares with the PS5's 3D audio through headphones.

I mean that to think you're going to get Dolby Atmos through a headset is laughable. The thing that differentiates Dolby Atmos from run of the mil surround sound are height speakers (above your head). You're not getting surround sound thru a headset...and you certainly aren't getting Dolby Atmos.
Can you believe these plebs still use their (headphone surrounded) ears to listen? I switched to exclusively using my scalp to listen years ago when I first got Atmos. Really helps you hear things that go over your head.

I bought this when it was on sale about a year ago because I like playing around with headphones and surround audio with my games.

I think it works well enough and I do notice a slight difference between this and Windows Sonic on both my Xbox One X and my PC. I played Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Resident Evil 2 Remake as they are Atmos supported games on Windows 10. $10 was fine for a lifetime license, unless you're a real audiophile you don't need this. I only consider myself a casual.

I haven't tried DTS Sound Unbound yet so I can't compare.

For what it's worth I use a pair of LucidSound LS31 headphones to game with on all my consoles and PC. They are stereo without any of the fancy 7.1 processing effects that I've always found to make things sounds worse in games.

All that being said, the absolute BEST audio I've ever experienced in a game was playing the Last of Us 2 on my PS4 with the same headphones. It was just using the Stereo headphone setting of the PS4. In the end it really comes down to the in-game audio design and your brain being the ultimate sound processor

So, if I have a 5.1.2 sound system with a receiver already capable of decoding Dolby Atmos and with the Xbox connected to the receiver, would this allow me to play games with Dolby Atmos enabled? Or is this supposed to be for Atmos absent systems?

You can already use Dolby Atmos for a home theater system for free...just enable it in the XBOX settings.

This paid app just enables Atmos for headphones

Will I need something like this if say I wanted to use my AirPods Pro for pc gaming? My AirPod pro have spatial audio but I think the setting only works for iPhone. But this Dolby app will allow me to use it for pc too right?

You do not need to buy this for your setup to work. Instead attempt to enable it in the Xbox audio settings, and it will prompt you to first install the Dolby app in order to enable it. The app will try to sell you on this very same headphones deal, but you can skip past that. As far as I know, Atmos is not an option without first installing the (free) Dolby app. That goes for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Do you know if you can use it on different computer/devices if they're under a different login. For example, my xbox account and my computers windows account have different emails associated with them.
I bought this with my personal microsoft account on Xbox, but got rejected when trying to login to the Dolby app on my work PC. The app comes from the microsoft app store and is locked to the MS account you use in the store (no separate username option), so in my case was tied to my work MS account. It seemed clear that it would have worked if I had used the same personal account.

I'm surprised they're charging money for this. If they want their standard to be adopted by all, they should provide software for free to get their tech adopted — and charge the content designers for a license.

I have DT-770 Pro headphones that are connected my PC through an AMP, so already a good setup. Just tried the trial and can't hear much difference. Feels like some basic EQ mod.

After moving to my series x this app no longer works for me. I go into my xbox settings to turn dolby on and it directs me to the store where it tells me to install the app I already have installed. The app just sends me back to my xbox settings and I'm stuck in a loop. Others have been having this issue too.
