I think you can get away with a bit less than 2 feet, not everyone will have that much room. For example, Paradigm recommends 8 inches or more. I think 8-12 inches as a starting point is more reasonable (though more if possible), but also depends on the particular speakers and the room.
You could, there's even a mounting option. They are back ported though so probably not the best idea.

Could I mount these to a wall or is that not recommended?

Good deal. If I didn't just get the KEF Q150s I'd probably scoop these up.

Do not mount to the wall. They are wall mountable but it destroys the imageing. Best to have 2 feet from wall or more if possible. amazing speakers a bit of listening fatigue if you listen for long periods. but exceptional speakers.

Save almost $100 compared to the newer RP-500M and if you like Cherry finish, it's not offered for the newer model. From what I've read, the differences/improvements are not huge it seems. The RP-150M gets pretty good reviews.

Buy both and get a true answer, just return the other one when you're done.

I added two pairs of these as my rear and side surrounds. If I were going to be using them as my left and right fronts I might consider stepping up to the rp160s, which are very similar to the rp600s and can often be found at Crutchfield for around $375 a pair.

I have these in a 7.2.4 setup of all klipsch RP products (except the ceiling speakers, which are monoprice ambers). They do a very good job in the role I am using them in and I was very happy after replacing my klipsch r41ms.

To answer the questions of others these are backported so you do not want to hang them directly on the wall, although nothing is stopping you from doing it.

Very minor annoyance, mine came with the base plate installed that you might use if they sat on a console or shelf. This meant holes were predrilled in the bottom. As I put mine in a wall mount I would have preferred the holes never have been drilled in it, but that is an extremely minor gripe and I forgot about it until I was trying to think of downsides to this setup, and I couldn't think of anything actually meaningful.

A rough rule of thumb as a starting point is rear ported speakers should be placed a minimum distance from a wall equal to the port diameter.
