Experience greater power, range, and speed. With an internal and external lithium ion battery, ES4-800 has a top speed of nearly 15.5 mph and a range of up to 28 miles. The bar for high-performance e-scooters has been raised.

I'll try and summarize the developments thus far.

With stock dashboard
1. If bluetooth on the dash is blinking for over 20 secs, you can connect the scooter to Segway Ninebot app and get access to new firmware updates. However, the update stops at 47%. You can use other features like locking scooter, seeing miles traveled, etc. You can't set or select speed mode. You can use m365 app to set colors. Max speed is 17mph.
2. If bluetooth only blinks temporarily, you can't connect to the app, hence can't access the firmware update or other features. Max speed is 14mph. You can use Windows to flash the dash and update the firmware. You can also set max speed to 35mph. Run the risk of bricking if you don't do it right.

With aftermarket dash, available at Amazon, Ebay, etc
3. You can use the Ninebot app to connect to the scooter via bluetooth and update firmware. It's not clear if one gets access to full features of the app, such as select and set speed mode, change colors, lock scooter, etc.

So with #2 .... you don't need to buy anything? and just need to flash the firmware?

Also with Locking the scooter on the app ... Do I have to keep the scooter ON? it seems like it only works when scooter is ON. That doesn't help at all.

With #3 you get full access to the app and features after you change the serial to a "T". The only thing I wasn't able to flash is the BMS. I tried updating the BMS with the Xiaoflasher and it still did not work.

When I locked mine I wasn't able to turn off the scooter. I did not wait to see if it turns itself off after a while but I suppose this is a useful feature if you are going into a shop for a quick purchase and not so you can lock it all day. For locking all day you would need to use a physical lock anyway.

For #1: I think all these Bird renewed scooters has a 15mph speed limit regardless having a BT dash or not.

Mine can go 17mph standstill ... I think with a flat and smooth surface I can achieve that. I'm getting 16mph easily on asphalt. I'm 175lbs.

There is a very detailed FAQ on the thread's Wiki, people still fail to read it.

Since you have a green board, you can probably flash that instead of buying another.

Is it worth upgrading? I am tempted but thus far 15 mph seems fast enough for me. On a side note I wish I had bought a second scooter at this price.

I just want to confirm.
You replaced the dash and you changed the serial number.

Then you updated to latest OEM firmware or to custom?

If you double click the button on the dash of the scooter, does it change speed modes?

Is your max speed 18 mph now?
this is where I"m hung, my max still 16mph, i updated oem firmware then i flashed custom firmware. i can switch between speed modes yes

Thanks for testing that out. If you have basic soldering skills, you can likely flash that board. an STlink is $7-8 on Amazon.
What is the benefits of flashing the board?
