hahahahahahahaha. But yeah there are some 19.99 Bluetooth speakers
Got this speaker a while back and have to chime in here.

The sound on this speaker is FANTASTIC. Lightyears better than any other speaker I have tried or listened to at the $200 to even the $300 range. It also just looks sexy. It is a very attractive speaker, and looks great on the shelf.

Both are fantastic units. Onyx has more punch and the go play is more open.

The battery on this is really poor for a portable speaker. While the Onyx Studio 4 battery isn't that great either, it's still a great speaker for nearly half the price.

Still about $100 too expensive even at sale price. Plenty of other Bluetooth speakers with great sound for under $100.

Nope, I was not talking about $20 Bluetooth speakers. But around $100 there are plenty of high quality options smart Bluetooth speakers available.
yeah but can't beat HK. battery is small though, I actually got the Google home max in the mail ($150 FP deal), but also bought this one. will return the max without opening. I don't even need to listen to max to see if it is better. HK so fancy, crisp sound.

I've owned both - my 2 cents....

This one sounds slightly better than the onyx and is a little more portable just because of the shape. Seems to me it has deeper bass; however the onyx sounds good too.

price wise - I'd recommend the onyx as the better deal. If you want to spend $200, buy two of the onyx and pair them which sounds really good. Or perhaps consider this https://slickdeals.net/f/14573335-jbl-partybox-100-portable-party-speaker-199-99-w-free-shipping?src=rcm_category_h

All that being said, I paid $200 a couple of years ago for this and I don't regret it!

Agreed. Tried so many speakers and settled for JBL PartyBox 100. Can't beat it for under 300/350 price range as long as one is okay with its huge size (still portable and battery powered though)

Any idea how these measure up against the big name options?

- Even considering the price difference I would say that the Go and Play is a better speaker than the Onyx 4.
- I don't have the Onyx 4 but I do have the Onyx 3. I think the Onyx 4 might be better built and not as fragile as the Onyx 3.
- The Onyx 3 has excellent sound quality and is true stereo with 2 mids, 2 soft dome tweeters and a bass radiator. It may be the best sounding Bluetooth speaker out there but it's very fragile, it's portability is limited to around the house and is more of a table/desk speaker. It also only plays at full power when plugged in to the wall and at only half power when on battery power which sucks. Hopefully the Onyx 4 plays at full power when on battery power.
- I'd look at the Go and Play as a durable version of the Onyx 3. It's made to be taken out and about but still has the same excellent sound quality as the Onyx 3, it uses the same 2 tweeters and 2 bigger mids than the Onyx 3. I don't own The Go and Play but have listened to one and it might be the best sounding portable bluetooth speaker other than possibly a JBL which is now owned by Harmon, JBL bluetooth speakers are very good too.
- If you're considering the Onyx 4 it's important to check to make sure that it plays at full power when on battery only and not plugged in to the wall, that is a very important feature. Hope this helps.
- Sidenote, I almost bought a Go and Play for $150 on sale but that was still a little too much $ for me. For that much $ I'd get a Dewalt or Milwaukee, whichever matches the cordless tools you use. You could listen to your tunes and charge a tool battery and your phone at the same time and the speaker on battery power would last forever using the very high mah (millamp hour) tool battery as a power source.
- For a portable bluetooth speaker for work (construction) and when I'm out and about I bought the Fugoo XL Tough for $99 on sale. It sounds very good, not as good as the Onyx 3 but it's waterproof and almost indestructible with it's aluminum case, 2 important features that I need for work.
- Edit. The Onyx 4 only plays at half power while on the battery, same as the Onyx 3. Per website specs: 15watts (ac mode), 7.5watts (battery mode). There's a big decrease in sound quality at any more than low volume when on battery, but that wouldn't matter much if you plan on using mostly when plugged in to the wall.

the original Harman Go and Play 2007 was and is the best sounding portable player ive ever owned or heard. Sadly subsequent go and plays lack the overall deep rich sound of the original.Go with the Onyx
