As per the documentation, it is not mandatory to open a new line.
What if you don't have a T-Mobile post-paid plan? I have a prepaid T-Mobile plan.

Does anyone know if this will work out of the box for Metro by T mobile without unlocking, Also, if I'm just buying to use on metro without opening any new accounts for T mobile, will that affect the rebate... Thank you in advance!

I get it. Well, for me, I'm working on the free lines so I can pull my folks off their 55+ plan and put them on my free lines. This will be my fourth, enough for us. . .but one short of covering both of them. Gonna put one of them on this latest free line, and the other on MVNO until another free line shows up so we can ditch their 55+ account now. Then we're all set.

For my situation, and yours, it's important to have these decent upgrade deals, for different reasons. . .
Look into getting a data with paired digits to attach one to the free line until you get the next free line if they don't mind sharing incoming calls for the next few months.

As a heads up to those who are jumping on this deal, make sure you know the last 4 digits of SSN of your tmobile primary account holder as they do ask for it.

Thanks, hadn't thought of that approach. Will look into it. Hell, they have matching phones right now and have the "wrong one" half the time anyways so I'm sure it wouldn't matter. . .
Never know which one I'm gonna get when I call either number. . .getting almost Seinfeld'ish at this point lol. . .answering together on speakerphone for them is today's version of the old Seinfeld one answer call from kitchen; other jump in to make it "3 way call" from living room landline phone lol.

If you want to trade in I am sure many Slickdealers here will buy from you at the same very low amount you get from the companies who rip you off.
I'm talking about the half off that is being offered direct from T-Mobile, not the companies that offer nada

I recently did the TMobile A71 5G de from the Samsung website for 3 family friends who have Metro. It does not work right out of the box on Metro.
I wasn't able to do the activation of the device online, website issues, so I had to call Metro, and tell them I tried doing it online, fee was waived.
Here's the breakdown.
Call.
Using the automated system, I said device upgrade.
Yes to keeping the same SIM card.
No to not having the security code.
Transfered to agent.
Gave account holder name.
Explained the process.
Code sent to the metro line wanting to upgrade.
Give code.
Give account PIN.
Give IMEI and Serial number of new phone.
Remove SIM of old phone, insert to new phone.
Test, and done.

Hope that helps!

That is a problem with how Metro service pairs the imei to the sim card in order to get service. Its not the phone's fault. All T-Mobile phone will work with METRO PCS whether sim lock or unlock.

Data with paired digits is a $10 add on with its own number that you can link to any existing line to share its' data and calls. Incoming calls ring both phones simultaneously, when one picks up the the other is free and can still make calls independently, the linked phones cannot however call each other but can text. It's quite a nifty trick to save money for close relatives.

Is that kind of like smartwatch data?
So If I have unused phone line plan, I can add a paired digits for $10 and can add up to 5 devices to use the plan (watch, tablet, esim on iPhone)? Is there unlimited data like the phone line plan?
Thanks in advance

Keep your s9. I traded mine in and miss it. The s9 screen, fingerprint scanner, gorilla glass, wifi and call quality are all better My s20fe is plagued with bugs. Only stores 3 fingerprints vs 5, scanner is faster, when it works, but usually takes 3-4 tries. Typing and phone calls are both terrible. Lots of typos because of touchscreen issues. And calls get hung up, put on hold, and other random things as the screen doesn't deactivate well.
I traded in an OP6 and honestly that old phone had a lot fewer issues. The touchscreen has some weird detection issues although it hasn't affected me much. The worst thing is the fingerprint reader though. It's slow and not that accurate and limited to 3 fingers. It also keeps randomly failing to connect to my mesh WiFi 6 network even though my previous phone and 30+ other WiFi devices have no issues. This phone hits a lot of key specs but specs aren't everything.
