1. Buy/Upgrade the google one membership on the google account you plan to buy the phone with 2TB plan and choose monthly option. , don't choose annual.
Post transactions check your storage on one.google.com and for sure if it is when 2TB, looks for benefits in left section, where it makes you eligible to earn 10% as credit on google store purchases.
2. The shop now from benefits, or head direct to store.google.com
3. Add Pixel 4a 5G, do required steps before trade-in step and then add the Pixel 2/2XL or Pixel 3/3XL as trade-in since those are having high trade in values.
4. In cart, it will show $49.90 coming as credit to you because of membership ( on right top i believe, and yes it gives credit only on purchase price, not on tax)
Note - The credit is added to account 30 days post your device ships.
5. On checkout, you will see your calculated trade-in on right and then process the payment
- either via same paypal trick above ( for some reason, this didn't work for me// even contacted paypal, but didn't resolve, so ended up paying using Chase Freedom Unlimited for 1.5%)
- use any other benefit card (1-2%)
6. Order completion page will show the credit it will earn, the ship dates for phone and Trade In Kit. For what everyone is seeing it is showing up to be shipping/arriving a week later.
7. For Google One Membership, Keep a watch on 30 day credit mark, the moment it shows up, cancel the 2TB monthly plan, or roll back to lower tier. For existing members , can't say if they will be get charged one or two month before they cancel, but since a new member would have purchased device and plan on same day, hopefully they will be able to cancel before 2nd month charge hits resulting in net profit of ~$40 else $30
In Summary : $499 + tax(~35) + $9.99 - $27 - $49.99 - $225-295
= $170-$240
I won't think that is bad price for new Pixel 4a 5G in comparison to the Google Fi deal provided the trade-in doesn't hold much value outside these scenarios.
8.That credit is google store credit , can be used on anything, on new phone, mini, case anything.
Enjoy your new device.
PS - The iPhone XR is showing $373 in trade-in where as iPhone11 ~ 250. So you never know what your device may be of worth unless you keep checking.

Just $10 but a nice freebie which made my dual nest mini purchase pretty much almost free (when stacked upon the already $50ish I got in store credit by changing my Google one acct to 2tb monthly while making this pixel 5w 4g purchase). the wait to talk to them was like an hour or 2
87.5 only.
still disputing
last night I think I accidently tapped something when trying to get the phone out my pocket.
It says esim is not active and cant activate. I have only three days remaning, phone and number still shows up in Google Fi account.
On google Fi app there is an activate link though.
What is the best way just wait or contact customer service? I dont really trust customer service and dont want to complicate even more by letting them know.
Alright. So I got a value of $32.00, which the email said was because it was outside the 30 day window. I spoke with chat who tried to tell me it was because the screen was cracked. I told them the email did not say the screen was cracked (and it wasn't when I sent it to them). They said they would escalate and get back to me in a few days.
For those of you who got a value of $32 for the pixel 2 initially, was that the value due to a cracked screen or the value due to the being outside the 30 day window?

I've been in dispute with Google for about 2 weeks now. They have straight up lied and said that my screen was cracked when I know with 100% certainty that it was not when I shipped it out. They have only given me $32 and have offered $50 Google credits. I said that that's not something I will accept.
My next step is filing dispute with my credit card company.

As a follow up for me, after their escalated review, I received the rest of the amount as a courtesy credit. At least that's what the email said. I have yet to get it back on my card, but I think that's just a formality. Many thanks to every who shared their experiences. They were very helpful. I'm sorry that so many had so many issues with this trade in deal. I definitely do not think I will be doing something like this again with google.
Two weeks later still no refund has to respond again and then they finally pushed the refund through.
Never again....
My next step is filing dispute with my credit card company.
If you do this just be aware that your Google account (Gmail, Photos, Docs, etc) is likely going to get nuked.
