My experience with backlit keyboards is they wash out on white or silver laptops due to the screen reflecting off of the keys. Opt for the Fog Blue to minimize.
Add TOUCH, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD -- The configuration comes to 609, Apply coupon SMBHOL10 to bring down the total to $548.

Coupon SMBHOL10 works for $599 or more.

Paypal Chase offer gives 5% cashback too !!
Wow $400 for Ryzen 7 4700U + FHD screen + WiFi 6 (just $10 for the WiFi upgrade, so why not futureproof it), it's gotta be one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest ever for that combo.

A pretty futureproof buy, and I think the RAM and SSD are replaceable so if you need to do it now, or in the future, it's a perfect base to start with.

2 screws outside and 4 under the strips. Pop off the cover and one more screw for the hard drive.

Question if anyone knows the answer. I have the Walmart HP pavilion deal with Ryzen 5 from November and I picked up this HP one with the Ryzen 7. I have been using the Walmart one for a while now and wish to just switch the 500GB SSD from the Walmart one into this new one so I don't have to transfer data and programs etc. Can I do a straight up switch without making any other changes to the SSD drives or will things get messed up?
The ssd is bitlocker encrypted so you can't just transfer to another laptop like that. you might try to disable the bitlocker encryption and see if it works. It's possible that if you still do uefi secure boot, your licensing might still be ok since both use the same home version.

The drivers will take care of themselves after you connect to the net and update. Thats the easiest part.

Yes. warranty starts on date of shipping. So that means most of us already given up half month of the warranty since we all have to wait for all the delays since the day it was purchased
I wonder if opening the computer up to upgrade the HD and memory would void this warranty?

Anyone know if this supports DP Alt Mode? The docking station I have says the laptop has to have this mode for USB charging and to output video to the dock. So far everything works except USB charging and I can't get it to recognize the monitor which is hooked up to the dock over HDMI.

Try connecting the monitor directly to the usbc port

I don't have a compatible monitor. All of them are HDMI or DVI.

Wish I would of seen this a few hours ago. Just replaced the SSD so I'm in the same boat as you. Curious if the $59 warranty would apply to this.

May also try to go into bios and change the DP setting to high res.. keep hitting esc right when the computer is booting up. then try your dock again and see.

also might have to try a different dock or HP dock

Update on this request. I downloaded the HP Support Assistant on my new SSD with this laptop. After that app ran and updated my computer, I looked in my messages.

One of the messages was an offer to extend / upgrade my existing one year warranty. The offer there was the same as the one mentioned in this thread, HP 3 Year Accidental Care for HP 15, 17 Pavilion 10. The price was also the same after the coupon code, $59.

I felt much better buying the warranty once I realized it was referred to me from the HP Support Assistant. I purchased and will reach out to them later this week to very it applies to this computer.

I am curious about this, if I am HP, why should I warranty hardware changes that's installed by users? Even RAM, SSD, and Wifi are low risk upgrades, you still touched the board and may break things (Many forget to disconnect the battery).

Can someone definitely say upgrade RAM, SSD and Wifi will not void the warranty?

New update about the static sound/noise from my laptop: in the login screen, I could hear the static sound when I was moving the mouse, and the sound stopped as soon as I stopped moving, same for moving the mouse through the touchpad or an external mouse. Weird!
What could have gone wrong? Any idea? Thanks.
Another update and interesting finding:
I asked my wife to listen to the noise, put her ear close(<1 inch) to the keyboard, she tried a few times but heard nothing; while my kid and I could clearly hear the static noise from one foot away, especially when the mouse was being moved. I had to proved it to my wife by recording the noise using the iPhone app, then played it back to her.
I would guess the static noise is at certain frequency range, not everyone can heard it, that could be the reason why some people in this thread claimed they heard that while other didn't… when I could hear that, it was really annoying sound.

Sounds like coil whine. I returned a couple of >$1500 Dell XPS 13s to Costco because of that annoying noise. Someone said this mouse setting may help:
