When they say "add a new line", do they mean voice line, or can it be a data line? I'd like to add a Apple watch ($5/mo plan, and I have the watch already), and would like to know if by adding the data line, it qualifies to get the Apple XR phone. It would make an easy upgrade over my existing phone.

I see from previous comments that a data line for watches is now $5. Any deal on an inexpensive watch for adults or kids (without adding a new phone line)?
flea-bay and swap-pa have Galaxy and Apple watches. They're used...but that may not be such a bad thing if its for a kid.

Ok so if I am a T-Mobile user with one line, I could add a line and get a free XR, then go to Costco and add a (free) line for a $200 shop card? Then I need to keep the extra paid line for a year.

OR, if I don't want to actually keep the lines, I can add two lines at Costco for 2x$200 cards (and then cancel after I get the cards, 3 months or so?

Man, if I can add the free line and do this as well that would be killer. Someone please find out!
I can confirm this is the real deal. I just called T-Mobile to add the free line and the customer-rep suggested I wait until Monday to add my free line since it will come with a free iPhone XR.

Edit: I was incorrect and these two deals do not stack.

Folks,
How long does the line have to be active for the iphone XR to be unlocked?

Does anyone know if this will be in-store only or online as well? I'm with AT&T and ready to jump ship if it comes with a no strings attached XR. I also have an unused iP5s and a Google voice number, dont know if that will be eligible for the XR with new line. The other alternative I'm looking at is the Costco BYOD offer of $200 per new line.

Phone promos require a voice line plan, data device promos require a data line plan. So.. no, you'd need to add an actual voice line to qualify.

You mean to suggest the free XR is not a free but a bill credit type thing?

I called TMobile, was told this is a online cyber Monday deal. Available online only... You need to open new line 20 a month for 24 months. I expect them to give XR away free no exceptions, later in December though..

Even reddit post confirmed this does not stack with Free line. Don't ever trust T-Mobile rep through their website. I've had T-mobile rep through website/app provide incorrect information which caused so much headache for me in the past.

Tired of these deals. Been trying to unlock a 3-yr old from Sprint and they have been delaying it for a week... Not getting another locked phone from these guys.
