Yes u can, i just did.
No meaningful difference on the toothbrush side. The extra cleaning modes on the 5300 are superfluous.

But, you get 2 extra brush heads and a travel case. The case costs $12 standalone and the 2 brushheads cost about $13, so it's worth it to get this deal over the 4100 if you have a use for the travel case.

Smokin' deal at $50 and the 2 extra heads - had to pick one up. A pack of 2 heads is about $20 alone, so you're essentially getting it for $30. My Sonicare 4000 series is over 3 years old and is starting to malfunction - it essentially never gets to 100% charge status. Also need new brush heads for it anyways.

Are there any differences in noise levels or strokes when comparing the ProtectiveClean line vs. higher-end lines like DiamondClean? The higher-end lines seem to have extra brushing modes and Bluetooth or whatever, but no substantial difference in terms of noise or strokes.

The diamondcleans, especially those after 9300 series seem to have multiple intensity level settings available. It is not just the four or five settings, but u can also change to high, medium or low intensities.
But, the main reason for them to be expensive is because of bluetooth, adder accessories and travel cases with usb type charging, brush sync technology and some led lights.

Why not go for the cheaper Oral-B Pro 1000 [target.com] for $30 (on sale) that happens to be Wirecutter's top pick? It lists in detail what makes this better than the more expensive offerings.
Thanks for posting this. Not only good to know that people may want to choose the $30 over this deal but also for me. I have a $100+ Oral B one that has a separate screen which shows the quadrants... It died. Then I realized I only really used it for the timer. I can use my phone to time. The brush has like 4 modes: 30 seconds, 45 seconds, gums, something else. I only ever used 45 seconds. Then the battery died in the toothbrush. These aren't usually made to be replaced, though there are instructions online for some models and the battery costs <$15. But for $30 why not just get a new one?! Good to hear the cheap model isn't worse performing than the expensive one.

Also, the Wirecuter article said that people who don't use a timer brush for 43 seconds on average. I hope I'm not that quick with a manual brush! It said that people who have a 2 minute timer will brush at least 2 minutes.

Seems like a good investment seeing as how expensive dental work is and how much better one's own teeth are than dentures/implants.

I see there are multiple types of brush heads for Sonicare. This comes with two Diamond type, which I gather are mainly for whitening. It comes with a G2, which is for gums. What type is best for everyday cleaning? Thanks.

should I buy OEM or generic brand for the replacement heads?
I would never buy a generic brand. The cheaper price is not worth putting the genetic brand in my mouth. You may try it but I learned 27 years ago.

Hey guy's just FYI
Kohl's still has the diamondclean on sale. $115 plus $30 MIR, $85 is not a bad deal at all for the extra shot glass and nicer brush. Plus the Kohl's cash. Im not a big fan of Kohl's but this is a great deal.

Having owned both the Oral-B 1000 and the Sonicare 4100, at the same price I personally prefer Sonicare 4100. Battery life consistently lasts me 2.5 weeks vs. Oral-B at 1.5 weeks, and my teeth felt cleaner with Sonicare.

That said, I haven't had cavities since I started using my original Sonicare 9 years ago, and my dentist couldn't tell the difference after I switched to the Oral-B and then back again to Sonicare, so they clearly both do the job.

Without a doubt, OEM. While the generic one I purchased from Amazon weren't worthless, pretty close. Didn't get that clean teeth feeling from generic ones.

Can anyone speak to this in regards to using a traditional/manual toothbrush? I'm most interested in this aspect:

"Pressure sensor that protects teeth and gums from excess brushing pressure."

Has anyone received actual results from a dentist checkup after making the switch to an electric?
According to my dentist:
  • Are you using those electric brush or something? cause I can see all that damage ...
  • Floss and use this tippy soft toothbrush to massage the gum line
  • Actual brushing is kind of a meh ...
  • Do not use toothpaste, they only wear out the enamel
  • Scrape your tongue w/ this little plastic thingy
  • No need for those nasty mouth wash unless you have specific condition
I have been off grid and only use toothpaste like once a week ever since ... so far so good

that's the diamondcare model with glass cup that sits on a wireless charging base.

I tried and didn't like the dimond clean handles because they use one button for everything, which can be problematic. It is much more convenient to have separate buttons for power on/off and mode selection.

Been using A sonicare for the last 5 years. My Gum disease has pretty much disappeared (with the help of Crest gum detoxify tooth phase) and i have been cavity free. too. It pays to have a good routine you stick to. I also get a cleaning every 3 months or so. Get with it and save a bundle.... and your teeth.
