The only ridiculous thing is recommending aliexpress as an alternative for anything. lol.

I've been through 5-6 of the cheap knock off brands on amazon and Costco.

Will they give you the same basic functionality? Yes. But they are all different. Different amplitude of the stroke, different frequency, and different build qualities.

Go look at the back panel of those "touch screen" knockoffs. They are all FAKE touch screens. It's a cheap plastic panel over a spring, glued around the circumference.

Because of the vibrations, this panel falls off over time.

Some knock offs have given a good massage, but have had that panel fall off.

Some knock offs give a cheap massage (no better than any cheap handheld massager) with low amplitude and low frequency.

Some have horrible battery capacities.

Some just smell like toxic fumes.

If you are the type of person to recommend Ali express, you are being slowly poisoned and ripped off in the long term.

I've tried a few of the aftermarket varieties now, and while initially being in the same boat as those saying "they're all the same," I can definitively say that there is a noticeable difference between the cheaper models and some of the higher budget ones.

In my experience, definitely avoid any of the ones that sell for around $30-$40. They will get the job done for those unfamiliar with the effects of a gun massager, but it is clear that they are functionally inferior - larger stroke distances, poor response (heavy shaking) to high pressure, louder, bulkier, heavier, and lower battery life.

The ones around the $70 to $100 range are the best bang for your buck. These tend to have slimmer handles, are lighter, lasts about 6 hours per charge, USB-C charging, and sometimes brushless designs. Compared to a Hypervolt, they are almost nearly indistinguishable if not, dare I say, better, especially in terms of sound.

TLDR, if you want to save more money, get the slim-type USB-C models on Amazon that hovers around $70 to $100 USD. They will perform just as well as the Hypervolt. AVOID anything less than $40.

Why are they better? According you many reviewers many models on Amazon perform better and are cheaper. This brand was first to market and does marketing better. That does not mean a better product.

I can't tell if this has a restocking fee if returned once opened, but seems like a good deal.

How do the knockoffs, like TaoTronics on Amazon, compare?

It's like going to Harbor Freight. If you are a dude that's a weekend warrior, the Chinese knockoff will be fine. If you are serious about things, these are better products.

I work out at Orange theory fitness and they sell these for quite a bit more. This is about $100 savings compared to them. Our daughter is a personal trainer by profession and swears by this brand. I think they will love it! One down for Christmas thanks OP!

I personally own the LifePro Sonic percussion massage gun. It's currently on sale at Amazon for $95.99 and is outstanding! It's actually quieter than the professional one my chiropractor uses. In my opinion, there's no reason to pay twice as much for this one unless you are using it constantly everyday on patients. Life Pro makes professional models of that's required.

This is the url for the Sonic which I purchased for home use: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07QT...XFbH2ZW8SG

Actually TaoTronics unit is solid. Playmakar also has a really nice one, great battery life (doesn't come with a case though and it's not a cheap add on). I've used both. Own one. Done direct comparisons with a trainer and my physical therapist. Research the specs motors power etc. Nothing makes this one leveles better than those two (it them a "knockoff") other than name rec. They didn't invent percussive tech they just marketed it well.

I have the Lnchett one from Amazon, and it is pretty much identical to the Hypervolt my PT person uses.

I got this as well as the cheaper one from Amazon (which I then sent back) There is no comparison in terms of the effectiveness. You get what you pay for. The 50$ ones are by no means useless but if you want to use them often for things like muscle recovery then bite the bullet.

I got the theragun G3 pro to help with recovery, I think it's more of a placebo effect. Can't notice any benefits using this, tried it using only on one leg, recovery is the same on the control leg.
