Don't ever get these trash. They're good but I bought version one expecting them to last 20 years but they just continued with smart support for all these devices and asking me to upgrade the hub now

A gen 2 hub literally costs less than $20 on OfferUp. So many people have tons of these.

God forbid they discontinue 8 year old products for the sake of real progress! You can get a Gen 2.1 for non-prohibitively cheap prices anyway if you know where to look. Get real...

A lot of hate in here for some reason, but this a great deal to get started with. We have our whole apartment with HUE and it's fairly amazing. I don't think I could go back to a non smart lighting setup.

Is a hue hub different then a hue bridge?

I have bluetooth color hue lights already and need a bridge so is this different?

The smart button alone is worth $30 so then its $20 to sell the hub and then $9 for some older bulbs.
If using other zigbee hubs and with compatible driver, the 1-4 button Tuya Zigbee (not Tuya wifi/cloud) controllers are less than $20. Each button can be programmed for single click, double click, or hold (to do dimming like Hue button)

Many misunderstood that even at eBay when I was looking for a hub (for a zigbee 2-id led controller), they said Gen 3 Hub.
I believe Gen 2 and Gen 3 bulbs were released with Gen 2 Hub (square hub)

Same thing, officially it's called Bridge while we often refer as Hub.
I believe bluetooth hue lights are also zigbee compatible (it should be said on the box Hue Bridge compatible).
There is a limit of bluetooth lights can be linked at the same time and control only within bluetooth distance.
With Bridge, many bulbs can be linked and can also be linked to other zigbee hubs to work with non-Hue devices

eBay is your best bet. I've sold many in the light bundles I acquired over the last few months for around $40 or so, but ended up having to buy a second one (yes, my hue environment has grown that much to warrant another haha) brand new (open-box technically) for $22. The marketplace fluctuates, but good aren't hard to look for if you're patient enough.

I apologize if I caused confusion by saying Gen 3 Hub. I thought I had 2nd Gens, but when I googled the model number for someone I was sending it to, the search said Gen 3. So not sure what is the correct answer other than the circular, UFO looking ones I believe are Gen 1.

So there is not really a "Gen 3 Bridge" right? The latest one from them is the Gen 2 square looking one.
