Can someone describe a use case for having 3 smart plugs on the same outlet?

The whole unit can do 16A total, which is more than enough for you to run a couple small kitchen appliances on a schedule. But that just seems silly.
Yeah what's the use senario for these?

I'm in the same boat.

Is it better to order this and return the first batch (return shipping fee?) or try to get a price match on the ones that just arrived?

you could have yourself a private light show with USB powered string LED lights. Just use phone chargers but it might be a tight fit.

They're less than $5 ea. Even a single gang smart outlet is a bargain for $5. Even if you use them as a single gang it's beats most smart outlet deals.

Okay, I'll try. It's a little weak though...

I have 2 hanging LED shop lights and a shop fan in my garage all plugged into separate $5.00 smart plugs. The reason the shop fan is on a smart plug is that sometimes when the garage is cold, I leave the fan off when I do heavy bag work, but I always eventually heat up enough to want the fan. The lights are on switches for the obvious reasons.

I COULD have put all three of these on a triple plug like this, but then again I would have used 2 extension cords to make it work...

Well, that's the best real world one I could come up with.

Returns are free with Amazon. Just drop it off at UPS Store or Kohls.

Nice. I held off at $20 but couldn't pass these up. Still looking for a way to alert if my garage fridge or freezer go out, or the power to them goes out. Think I would be able to do that with the energy monitoring component of these?
