Do you need to be a Sam's Club member to purchase that 2-pack?

1: These could also be used in the house.
2: In case you want to turn them off at bedtime each day, or different times on weekends
3: day, or control them remotely with the app
4: control them with Amazon Alexa / Google Home /Apple whatever.
5: You can also create routines for anything plugged into them

TU for being able to purchase through Amazon, but unfortunate that other stores always have to put things on sale before Amazon drops the price to match. Guess it's good there is still competition.

Can these be hacked by people outside to gain entry to your wi-fi network?

Yeah I always try to make a conscious effort to not buy through Amazon if possible. And I'm a Prime member. I think they have perverted the entire retail landscape. We have to really try to keep competition alive as much as possible.

It's a crazy world we live in where big box stores like Best Buy are the "little guy."

Just as a warning for anyone who cares, these are among the types of Kasa/TP Link devices that *must* route through their cloud for... some reason.

More info here. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2707/

Might not matter for your application, but if you wanted your home network to be entirely local, this'll be relevant.
