i read up on FB group, some Target gift card balance gets stolen as it gets activated. (cuz ppl saving them for opening up at xmas.) Probably a good idea to redeem it asap.
How do the crooks get the info? I ordered few GC's recently last week and they are being mailed - haven't gotten them yet. But I'd like to know what to do to safeguard myself.

Yes, I'd like to know too. Is it safer to add the e-GC to my target account ?

It's on the left tab "Explore" or the chat room you and your friend in, under the message "you we're paid - you earned a reward " click the blue highlight "you earned a reward".

Worked fine here. Enrolled card, activated Target $21 cash back, clicked through the link (doesn't sound necessary) and paid for a $50 email GC with the same linked credit card. Received Gpay confirmation in a few seconds.

Now to figure out how to get the $$ out. Wonder if you can use a refillable debit card?
Buy gas at one of the partner gas stations.

The general answer is, you can't.

Target has had employees log into their internal systems and poach activated cards from people, cards can also be brute forced by outside parties.

Buy them and spend them quickly, and don't leave large denomination cards unused is about all you can do.

Is paying with a debit card for a $50 Target e-gift card eligible for the $21 cashback? I noticed that it says pay with signature instead of PIN for debit cards as a disclaimer. Does that mean the purchase has to be done at Target in stores?

I paid with through PayPal. On iPhone. Maybe that combination wasn't wise because I received nothing so far.
