Not true. Just reach out to @tmobilehelp on Twitter via DM with the imei and they'll unlock it for you. I just did it last week. No special approach required. The unlock was successful in 8 hours.

Should be careful with your trade in. I traded in my Galaxy 2 from Sprint, fully paid and flawless, got rejected because "blacklisted" and "broken usb" even though I charged it to 100% before sending it in. I had to argue to get it re-assessed. Passed the second time.

Don't ever want to do business with Samsung again.
