A71 is a mid range phone with "5G competable" but i think note 9 should still be a better phone

Not true. Just reach out to @tmobilehelp on Twitter via DM with the imei and they'll unlock it for you. I just did it last week. No special approach required. The unlock was successful in 8 hours.

Having done this recently I would only qualify that by reinforcing the fact that you MUST do this via social support channels (Facebook or Twitter). DO NOT call as they will refer you (needlessly) to Samsung.

when you did this , did you open / activate the phone as in were you using the phone or were you able to get it unlocked without even using it ?
I heard the TMO phones are now unlocked using a built in app, and hence *have to be* opened to unlock

I got one of this for xcloud gaming on gamepass and it works flawlessly! I got a razer kishi gamepad too so it's the best handheld console ever made in gaming history. Far far far better than switch psp or any other portable gaming device. Paired it with airpod pro so have the spatial audio with it as well.

I got the phone unlocked within 80hours from Tmobile and sold on offerup for 300...it depends on your local market. Even checkout swappa

If you trade in an old Android Samsung will mark your phone as blacklisted as well as locked, even though it isn't. I had to call into Samsung and fight the issue to get it resolved. Only took one phone call though. Heck the old Android phones did not have the ability to even be locked like you can do now with an iOS or Samsung device.

As others have said take pictures, make sure you record your IMEI and be prepared to have to call in to fight their decision.
