Thanks OP. Pull the trigger for my wife's S8 with black spot on the screen. Here are my numbers.

$100off coupon provided by OP.
$150off trade in (S8)
$20off-$100 (provided by chat representative, I told the CRS I need 20off100 coupon, I was asked what phone I was getting and if I had a trade in, I told CSR I had everything in the cart ready to apply the coupon)
Total $104 + tax = OTD $113.08

Battery on the S8 was fine, only issues was a dark spot on a corner and 64gb memory was getting always full.

Let sew how it goes with the trade in. I have been following the Pixel trade in thread and so far result have been good. Hopefully this goes the same way.

There are many parts of where I live where 5g is more than 3 times slower then the well established 4g .

For 5g to work well, you have to be v close to 5g antenna towers. Just bad coverage right now
Which carrier are you on? For Verizon I would agree with that statement but not in TMobile- for T-Mobile I usually get at least 10% faster on 5G- whereas on Verizon I usually get much slower speeds (like 3G 😂) on "5G"

I was being sarcastic!

Anyway, I assume apple will give you $25 for it for recycling?

I'm writing this review from the piece of junk called an A71.

HISTORY: I had a s9+ for almost 2 years. I tried to catch a good deal on the s10 or s20, but samsungs retail prices are outrageous and all promotions require an add-a-line. I got sick and tired of waiting and got an iPhone 11. Very powerful and smooth machine but i couldn't get used to the switch, specially without a fingerprint scanner.

Then I decided if I can't get a deal on a flagship phone, I'll try a "mid" tier Samsung A71. It's not a mid tier people. It's not. You'd think a phone that retails at $650 would be solid, its not. It stutters like the old cheap crap that cost $130 in a t-mobile store 7 years ago. Can't multitask properly. Almost freezes at least 2-3 times a day. Gotta close all the apps to give a chance to breathe. The s9+ was a much more solid performer. The freaking iPhone has their flagship processor in their $650 AND $400 phones. Only the size and features are different. Samsung should do the same.

Here's the worst part. A $650 that's not waterproof. They say it should handle a bit of splashing here and there, IT DOESNT. I was listening to a podcast in the shower and minimal water splashed on it. I wiped the water right after. The phone started acting like crazy. For almost a week, the volume is going up and down without the rockers being touched. Thought it was the case, but it wasn't. Also I couldn't hear anyone or anyone hear me no matter what I tried. Speaker, Bluetooth device, car. I Reset the phone 4 times during that period. Thankfully, it slowly went back to normal.

Also the fingerprint scanner is straight trash. It will scan my fingerprint on the first attempt 1 in 10 times if I'm lucky. I usual get frustrated and swipe up to use the pattern

This is my last Samsung device for a while. I'm probably going to give the pixel a try, and go back to the iPhone when they bring back the fingerprint scanner.

Further PROOF that this phone is trash. the pixel 5 and iPhone 11 are in the same retail price range, but never have these kind of promotions. And Samsung never has similar promotions on their other phones. Also, try to trade this phone BACK in to SASMUNG for their flagship phones, YOU SIMPLY CAN'T. It's not even listed. Because they know it has no value.

If you need a phone to get by, go for it. But do NOT buy this phone thinking it's a solid mid tier phone.
I agree 100%, I do not feel that this phone should be compared to the 4a5g or iPhone 11. Both are really in another class. I did the same thing. I had the a71 for a few days and sold it to get a 4a5g. At this time I am way happier with the pixel. If photos are a priory spend a litter more and get the 4a5g, it shines compared to the a71.

Might have to change APN settings for MMS but that is a quick fix.
