Almost as many 1 star reviews as 5 stars. I really don't know why but I trust negative reviews more than positive reviews. I suppose because people vent their frustrations more vocally than their satisfaction.

Same here. There is usually much more to be learned from.complaints than from gushings.

There are 2 big issues with the current gen of craftsman outdoor power equipment
1) cord snaps VERY easily and in the process damages the starter assembly somehow, no OEM replacements are available.
2) Motor also overheats easily and keeps running for a bit, but then won't run the next time due to damage.
If it falls below $20, you live in the cold north, and plan only using it during the fall/winter for less than 15 minutes at a time, and you don't mind the risk of having to toss it out it may be worth it but you're probably better off buying something cheap on craigslist or something.

THIS!!!!
Was in the market for an inexpensive gas blower, but want one that actually WORKS.
Not willing to take my chances for ~$45, to end up with a paperweight.....
I can't understand why any homeowner would buy a gas operated blower today. 60v and up electric blowers are just as powerful with zero of the headaches. They also go on sale often enough that the price difference is negligible.

How many batteries do you need to equal the yard clearing capacity of two quarts of gas in an afternoon?

Agreed. I have a Craftsman 60v blower and would never go back to gas.
