Got rejected, have a 780ish credit score. Maybe too many credit card sign ups recently
From what I could find online regarding BofA these are their restrictions for credit cards:

- You can only get approved for 2 new cards in a 30-day period
- You can only get approved for 3 new cards in a 12-month period
- You can only get approved for 4 new cards in a 24-month period

Apparently it only looks at BofA cards. Where as the Chase 5/24 rule looks at any credit card issued to you, regardless of which company issued it to you.

Edit: Adding the 7/12 and 3/12 rules for BofA higher up to this comment.

"7/12 and 3/12 rule"

"According to this rule, customers with a BofA deposit account will not be approved for new cards if they've opened seven cards (across all issuers) in the last 12 months, while customers without a BoA deposit account will be rejected if they've opened three or more cards in the last 12 months."

Doubt I'll get one BOA canceled the card I had from them out of the blue prob cause I never used it cause the interest rate was so high. It was my oldest card too so my credit score took a hit cause my credit history went from 12 to 6 years.

Yea, they closed my card in a year because I forgot about it. Terrible payment system. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with them.

I was able to open up 3 B of A cards within 7 months time frame. (2018-19) 2 were exactly the same. I had called and ask if I was able to open the same card again and was told I could. The other was the travel rewards. All opened online. I also bank with them too so might be a reason. I've never had a problem with them personally but I spread my banking needs around. When I had to dispute a charge from a gift card because they went out of business they refunded the full balance even though I told them I spent half of it already. Maybe I just got lucky with the right rep.

Please go to your branch to open the card or at least call your local branch they can save it to your digital shopping cart.

The closed account stays on your history for 7 years.

You'd take a hit after 7 years, but by then, your other accounts would be 7 years older. That's why (generally speaking) closing any one account won't affect people's credit score very much.

EDIT: I stand corrected. If the account was in good standing, it stays on your record for 10 years. If the account had adverse information, it stays on your record for 7 years.

Has anyone called them to clarify the cashback rewards rules? It sounds like only the first $2500 per quarter in spending gets counted in the 3%/2% cashback, then everything after that is at 1%.

Please help me double check my reading and critical thinking skills...

Yeah BofA for banking sucks, don't put your money with them.

But this credit card is good. It's the only no annual fee card that gives 3% CB on online purchases, which covers a lot

Yes, the catch is the $2500 ceiling per quarter to count %3 and %2 cashback.

You can get around it by applying multiple cards, each card has a different preferred %3 category.

I can't find it posted anywhere on the internet, but BOA sent me an offer for 200, plus for the first year 5% on category of choice (up to 2500) and 3% unlimited on all other purchases. Obviously I signed up.

Anything .com is online shopping. I have this card and did love it until recently I was aware of the $2,500 per quarter. I think most of us do a lot of shopping online. I called customer service about a $10,000 purchase I made and why I didn't get $300 cash back. The max you can get any quarter is $75 under the 3 percent category. Anything after that is 1%.
Agreed for your typical online shopping, this card is very powerful and versatile, but I wish they changed to an annual limit for more flexibility. Some quarters I run through the 2500 really fast, others it's slow

Keep in mind, BOA has lots of versions of this card which have the same rewards structure (World Wildlife, MLB, Susan G Komen, US Pride, regular Red card), and you can sign up for one of each if you really want to

Does anyone know if BOA ALWAYS lets you keep the cash back when you return an item? I have returned items before or had partial refunds, and they have not taken the cash back away.
You sure about that? I have plenty of credit cards with them and have never encountered this before

Well, basically what happens is I got 3% cash back then when i got a refund it only took 1% back away. But at least some of the times I had gotten over my limit for cash back that quarter so it may have just been doing that because after the refund, the later purchases with 1% cash back would have gotten that same 3% instead.
