Wow great deal. You could use the S20 as a stepping stone to the S21 by trading it in next year. You may even get more than $400 trade in credit.

It's unlocked, but you need to stay in fi for 90 days to get your $600 discount

For anyone wondering about using the phone with your non-fi carrier, I've now gotten an email by Google with my first bill and there's no charge.

I activated the fi sim via the fi app in the S20 the moment I received it and installed all the updates then did a factory reset which also deleted the app. While it was booting during factory reset, I took out the fi sim and inserted my main carrier sim and I have not yet received any notification on my credit card of any $600 charges.

My next bill is February 15th. If google deems I have broken the promo criteria, I'd believe I would see it by the next bill. I am extremely confident you can use the phone with another carrier sim as long as the fi sim is not used in another phone. Will report back if I get charged.
I see lots of people talking about not using Fi service - sticking the SIM in a drawer and canceling after 90 days. Aren't you effectively paying $500 for the phone since you're not taking advantage of the 90 days Fi service? At that point it isn't much of a deal since $500 is ballpark of what you can buy these things for outright, without the spectre of a surprise $600 charge for not abiding by all the terms perfectly.

As I see it the only way this is even marginally a deal is if you were at or near the end of a MVNO prepaid term and were needing new service anyway - then 90 days of Fi makes sense.

Where else can you buy a brand new factory unlocked S20 for $500?

Fi service is very expensive if you are a moderate to heavy data user.

The market will be FLOODED with these things anyway, so I definitely don't see a reason to skip out on the Fi service..

Possibly. Yeah absolutely this deal ain't for everyone.

Where can I get a guaranteed brand new S20 with oem warranty for $510 (the amount I'll end up total expensing after 90 days)? Genuinely curious.

If there was, I would have bought from there. I was actually looking at a used S10 because I loved that phone and it's getting android 11 soon.

The thing with the S20 is it'll hold enough value down the road for me to possibly get more out of later for another sammy or other phone than what I paid for it.

Just today, I got 5G in my status bar while I was in an area I don't frequent for about 20 minutes, so there's that.

Edit- grammar

Like I said, ballpark -- Amazon right now $569, or $541 with my 5% card, we're kinda right at the edge and jumping through several hoops for the privilege. With the S21 out, by next week I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing $499 at major retailers.

Any case, for me it makes more sense since I'll use Fi for 90 days and probably cancel since I despise their stinginess on data.

Are u sure it is $569 on Amazon? I think you look at a renewed S20Smilie.

That's assuming you are ready to pay full price for the S21. Not so slick. I sell my older phone's my self and get new ones with discount, maybe not first few months but about 6mo to a year.

Working fine here. What is the behavior you are seeing when you try to register? Did you put an additional screen protector over the one it ships with?

New customer, do I need to keep the device to get $600? I would want to replace with different device and se service. I plane to get rid of S20 within 30 days.

Terms and condition does not suggest, I need to keep the device.

A new Fi customer is somebody who is new to Google Fi on either a new plan, or a new member as a part of an existing group plan.
To qualify for the $600 discount, you need to:
Activate the Samsung S20, S20+, or S20 Ultra on a full service plan (data-only SIMs do not qualify) within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email and remain active on Google Fi for 90 consecutive days.
You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.
If you choose to get a new number, you will not receive the $600 discount.

Do you know the difference between "renewed" and "brand new"?

I have a question regarding the parallel S21 promo that Fi is running. Probably not the right forum, but there seem to be more experienced eyes here.

Does anybody know if for family accounts on Fi, is the credit available for the entire family or just the number ported? I'd like to add a new account to the family account, port a number on it to get the 50% credit and then remove the service after 3 months. Of course it only makes sense if the credit is applied to the family, otherwise it'll disappear once the line is disconnected.

Does anybody have any experience with that?

The credit is initially available for the account of the phone number ported into Google Fi and will be applied to that account's portion of the family plan bill, but there is an option in the Google Fi app to either keep the credit for yourself or share it with the group.

Ok so newbie to cell phone deals.

If I don't want to port my main number from Verizon,
Step 1) Obtain number to port in such as ebay and pay $7 for like a boost mobile number.
Step 2) Buy the s20 from fi
Step 3) when the phone arrives activate it using the boost mobile number and just not use the sim in another phone for 90 days
Step 4) cancel fi after 90 days
Step 5) insert my verizon sim in the s20

price of phone + tax + price of number to port in + 3 months of fi + tax = total
$400 + $30 + $7 + $60 + $4.50 = $501.50
