Consider that if you dropped and broke the phone, lost the phone, or it was stolen, not only would you have the sting of buying another phone, but if you placed the Fi sim into the new phone unwittingly, you'd get slapped another $600 by Google on top of the new phone you just bought. So potentially a $1000+ punch in the face because you dropped your phone and believed you were entitled to keep using the Fi service in the new device since, you know, you're still paying for it.
This scenario freaks me out since I almost did drop and break the phone, and all this for a a net savings of -- $50-$100? after factoring in the cost of 3 months of Fi service? I should've just paid $550 outright for the phone somewhere, and not entered into a 90 day contract where I'm walking on eggshells for three months to save a lousy hundred dollars.
Will not continue with Fi under any circumstances once the 90 days is up, I hate gotchas like this.

Spent an hour with a google fi rep who was also communicating with a tech specialist. They couldn't diagnose it and they tried both the native samsung messaging and also google messaging platforms. There's a weird number sequence at the end of all my text messages that I receive and I still can't receive any MMS. Sending text or MMS is fine on both platforms. They said they'll contact T-mobile to see what's going on as they are the fi carrier in the Las Vegas area.
Again, is anyone having problems receiving MMS messages or am I the only unlucky bloke here?

Fi credits received by trading in device can be used for monthly device payments as well but not when buying a phone outright. To use them just get the phone on monthly payments and then once the new phone is activated you can pay off the device ( under plan -> device management) and it will apply the full payment on your next bill and any credits in the account will be used accordingly.
I did the same to recover my extra trade in credits received and bought the s20 on payments and then paid it off and the credits were applied. it was all seamless

MMS doesn't work for fi recipients. Sending is fine though.
I hope everyone starts complaining so it can be addressed.
