Is it best to put these higher up or closer to the ground?

The wired ones were also for the same price back in December. Looks like it may be out of stock.

Ceiling, or as high up close to the ceiling if you're placing on the side wall.

Smoke and heat rise, so you want them higher up. Usually on the ceiling or at least high on a wall.

Got these last month when they were on sale for this price. I'm easily entertained by the motion night light feature.

My wired one only lasted 4 years ... and the battery one has already had issues as well. I won't ever buy a Nest protect again... they do NOT last and CS will not warranty it. I have three of these and it's very expensive if you have to buy new ones every 4 years

I have a wired Nest Protect since 2014 and had no issues + 6 battery Nest protects which only gave a false alarm from the CA wild fires because I left a window open. Should unscrew the 4 screws and vacuum inside around the sensor. I found out they put "roach trap glue" around the sensor to protect against insects as I found some small dead flies stuck inside.

I looked at my local store and they didn't have the same price. By the time I remembered to purchase online, they ran OOS.

I'll keep looking though

I own rental apartments so it is known that all CO and fire alarm has expiration date. Longest is 10 years. Just to let you know these will need to be replaced after 10 years of use.
