Does anyone have actual experience using the LSA?

People make a big deal about it, but all I've ever heard about it is hassle and disappointment.
I've used the LSA 3 times. I love it and have had no issues other than the waiting.

Order both - on the final order screen, you will see the prices broken down between the "free" tool and the main tool. IF you do not plan to keep the "FREE" tool, I guess you can order it for store pick up and not pick it up, OR I hear you can order "free" tool for shipping and the main tool that you intend to pick up as "store pickup". After ordering, within 45 min. you should be able to cancel the "shipped" item and you can just go and pick up your other order from the store. Of course, you can always return the unwanted item using receipt if you received both.
It looks like HD is on to this. Now when they advertise "free tool" with the kits, the tool is already added to the kit and listed with the other tools as " Bag w/Free xyz tool"

I chatted with them and this is how the free tool is included now.

Not necessarily.
HD has done this before. Once in a while, their "free" item will be part of the package. (which is this case where they are not separate items)

Where as MOST other times, it is separate items.

For example, currently, they are having BUY 2 Makita battery pack and get a Makita tool "free". So, you can add, 313962640 (battery) and then add 205302496 (makita multi tool), then at the check out, you will see that the battery pack is priced at $126.80 (instead of $199) and the multitool will be priced at $82.20.. So, you can still do this. (Now, why is it $209 total instead of $199 total? I don't know)

How often do they run the program where the customer chooses the tool?

Need the 3/8" subcompact impact wrench. Thinking about buying this kit and parting out a few tools, the 2ah bat and charger. Already have a couple batteries and chargers, drill.

UPDATE - They changed some of the Free Tool offers like you said.
