I have it and don't think it's very good. The switch controllers just aren't adequately calibrated to properly measure you swinging into the air. If you actually put on gloves and hit a pad, then this works a lot better because the sudden impact will be detected.
I also wouldn't recommend this without a punching bag or punching mitt because throwing a punch into the air with no resistance is terrible for your joints and elbows.
Love this game. Songs are great. Workouts are real. The hot chick trainers are a bit too scantily clad for my 5yo but you can change their outfits. Wife and I compete next to each other work up a real sweat. 💦

Only if u hyperextend your joints and elbow. With good form its fine.

However good point for the noobs.
You're right, I agree. Maybe there's a better way, but the issue I had was that anything short of hyperextension wouldn't register on the controller. The controller needed that sudden stop in order to count as a hit. If I stopped short to protect my joints, then I would have to add a little shake to my wrist which felt really unatural.
I'm open to suggestions if anyone out there has mastered this game. I took cardio kick boxing classes for a year before Covid started, so jumping to this just didn't fill the void as it felt like I had to ignore proper form to appease the controls.

To be honest video games have been absolutely terrible in designing any fitness "games." I bought most of the fitness games from past generation to now. My conclusion is that gamers design them and the problem is that they dont have any understanding of fitness to know a good game design for it. Its game designers sitting around creating fitness while googling for the design answers. Then they formulate the design. Its extremely gamer point-of-view creating something from their zero understanding of fitness.
I happened to do programming in high school so i know how programmers think fundamentally. But a big chunk of my life was dedicated to martial arts and some weight training. And the level i have gotten (intermediate-pro).. i was able to take my mile run from 7:45 seconds to 5 min 45 seconds.. i can honestly say that video games cannot take me there. Its fun.. probably cheap entertainment.. but very short-lived. To me they are categorized as not gaming and not fitness. So not a good genre and not great at any one thing. And i cant imagine even for beginners these can take them to the level they need to benefit.
I wish i could support these things but honestly a well structured DVD or blu-ray is probably the best way to go about it. The only way video games can do it is without any gimmicky sensors and let u just donit freestyle.. which is basically videos with instructions. 20 minutes high intensity is what anyone needs to have a good lifestyle. No need to waste time, money or resources into these. They are a joke tbh. I do have a whole library from wii to switch so before declaring me a hater i own a rather large collection. I use them to entertain my kids but i sort of given up as my kids dont sweat. I make them play ball and work on flexibility and High intensity sessions. Youtube has great videos. Try shuttlecocking or hacky sac.. those can be fun and beneficial and can be done in isolation. Oh yea, I accidentally threw a ball at my kids face and knocked out their first tooth. So now i dont have to worry about pulling it. They cried but at least they dont have to be scared of me pulling it now. My point is there are other benefits that we don't anticipate.

Ring Fit or Just Dance seem like better fitness games. This game I could see being worth the purchase at $20, $40 is still too much for such a bare bones game, and not at all realistic as a fitness boxing game unless you have the equipment for it.
