Was at Home Depot and they had this marked down (yellow tag) $100. from $799 to $699. Might be worth it to check if your store has any in stock and follow for any continued mark downs. This comes with four 5ah batteries and dual charger. Pretty highly rated overall. Only one model above this one (09), the difference being the deck is a steel on 08 and aluminum on 09. 09 aluminum actually weighs more. Amazon price has been going back and forth between $744 and $849 but CCC doesn't show the lower $744 price in its listing for some reason.

Need to keep watching it for a few more weeks. Even at 700 USD it is still overpriced. When it drops to about 350. It's time to jump

Good luck. The batteries and charger alone are worth $250 at discount. But who knows.

Here's the brickseek link

Wondering if this is the new price? I'm seeing $699 on brickseek, usually it shows "Clearance" if they're clearing stock.

Mows up to 1/2 acre on all 4 batteries according to description lmao. Thats terrible for the amount of money they want for this. Dewalt gives you 2 10ah which is same amount of watt hours as 4 5ah and is priced at 500. Wtf makita who would pay that much for 1/2 acre mower

Yeah, I'm a makita tool junkie and this isn't too appealing to me (have several drills and impacts of theirs, a cordless skill saw, grinder, flashlight, weedeater, Sawzall, etc). Ended up getting a 60v Ryobi this past year for less than half this price and it does the job.

60v?

Apparently I have to lengthen my post to "at least 5 characters" in order to post this... How dumb...

Sorry, think it was a typo. 40v and had a 6 amp/hour battery. It would possibly take two of those batteries to do a half acre (don't have that much property but I'm guessing 1 & 1/2 of those 6ah batteries or maybe the 6ah one and a 4ah one). Either way, my point is you could buy 2 of those and still be ahead rather than getting this makita.

While I wouldn't pay this price, this has some advantages over other systems: it runs at 36V, so it only drains one set of 5.0Ah batteries at a time. Makita's dual charger can charge two of those in under 30 min, so you are likely able to continually run this if you hot-swap batteries.

Makita makes good stuff, the reviews of this system are pretty positive. I went with the Kobalt 80V system, but it hasn't been stellar. The price has been hard to beat, though.

I picked up a 40v Ryobi (not sure of the model number) a couple years ago, which came with a 5Ah battery. Combined with the 4Ah that came with another tool, I can use my 40v string trimmer and the mower on my 1/3 acre, and still have a bit of battery left to use the hedge trimmer on my couple bushes in my front yard. I wouldn't even at $350. The toro smartstow folds up after use. This makita is a super heavy aluminum mower with no vertical fold Frown

although people claim the Toro has no way to turn off the self propel feature.
