I didn't cancel - I asked for a 10% discount when I called, then they cancelled and recreated a new order for me. I'm at the back of the line now though.

this will probably be the last year for the 10% cancel trick so abuse it until you lose it.
Nah it had been, it's still and it'll be. Just chat with rep. I placed another order for s21+ and got $50 refund which is even sweeter.

So s20 > s21 officially now? Was just hoping for better battery life and image processing improvements but... battery life is similar at 120hz and *worse* at 60hz and zero camera improvements. What a disaster.

My best guess is (1) samsung 5nm < tsmc 5nm so s888 / e2100 ended up power hogs and (2) samsung didn't optimize image processing on s888 version to avoid publicly humiliating the e2100 version that has a notably weaker isp.

Damn my cancel button disappeared so I tried to get the 10% cancel. The guy didnt offer the refund and without confirming sent a cancellation request for "review".

It will be horrible if it actually gets canceled. Should have waited closer to 27th before doing this.

A couple of interesting points from the PCMag review:

1. The phone technically supports eSIM, but it's been disabled on this model, and Samsung says it's still deciding when and how to enable that in the US, so treat this as a single-physical-SIM phone.

2. 5G does hit the battery pretty hard. On AT&T's network, streaming over 5G rather than Wi-Fi incurred a three-hour battery penalty in testing. You can't turn off 5G natively on AT&T or Verizon, though you can on T-Mobile. There's a third-party app called Samsung Band Selector that might let you force your phone to use 4G, but it's unsupported and could be disabled at any time.

The folks from India on chat are not very generous. Wait till you get someone from the Philippines. That's what I noticed.

I have had some pretty nice Indian people on chat on my previous Samsung orders (Nite8, S10, Note20) so I am not sure this is the issue here.

Basically yeah dont expect eSim support in the future then. One thing I have learned about samsung is that when they say something is coming in the future it either never does or comes out very late.

They promised some sort of notification led mechanism for the whole punch on S10 series which never came out. They said the auto-focus issue on the S20 series would be fixed by software updates, and it turned out to be a hardware issue.

They said ECG support would be added later to Watch Active2, it eventually got added but very late (more than a year) and only in a very few regions.
