As an option that offers many better solutions, the CAT S60 and CAT S61 phones (made by caterpillar - the industrial construction company, you know - the large yellow bulldozers etc...) have FLIR infrared sensors built in. They also come with dedicated software allowing you to have multiple options on how to measure multiple points, overall temperatures, color range choices, video with stills, etc... I have had a CAT S61 for several years and used it when I was a professional firefighter. As a company officer, it was invaluable for finding hot spots in walls, and then taking pictures, looking at wiring, fuse boxes, junctions, etc... to find faulty wiring... and now I use it with patients to get temperatures (retired from the fire department, now working as RN/Paramedic) on patients. It does cost more, but the other features might make it well worth it if you will use this for work. https://www.catphones.com/en-us/c...martphone/ Its waterproof, IP68 and milspec 81G, no need to buy a case, I have dropped mine from 10 feet and nothing... You can find them for 500-600 bucks, I paid a grand.

I get it - it is 4x the price of the dongle - but it is a phone, camera, air quality monitor, has headphone jack, is USB-C for charging...far better FLIR package (integrated... nothing to lose), Nice phone.

EDIT - here is a list of the sensor differences between the S60, S61, and S62 phones from Caterpillar - The S62 appears to be the same as the Flir one pro.

Based on the reddit post it is a slightly smaller capacity.

I read that Reddit previously and have tried to find the battery. My issue that Flir One Pro battery has 3 wires (red, black and white) most batteries seem to have only 2 wires. The link you included on Amazon is for a 2 wire battery.

The third wire is a temperature sensor. It's possible to just add one that always reads okay. If you want a direct replacement you can order from a battery supplier or some place like Aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33032619167.html I'd try to find a place with a better return policy though in case the battery comes busted.

You are also not constrained to the specific type of battery. You can go higher/lower capacity or even different dimensions as long as the new battery will fit in the case... or you can even modify your device so the battery is external, and then you can have a (relatively) huge battery for it. That will open up a lot of options, but at the cost of its compact size.

Can't find the specs easily on the CAT site but appears to have a 80x60 sensor - at least that's what comes up when I google FLIR Lepton (the "Video Capture" component listed in the specs).

Just ordered one, found out the usb C adapter is backordered. Not sure if they will ship the camera now or wait until the adapter comes in, so I ordered an adapter on Ebay. FYI, the USB C version is $300.

Lots of complaints about battery issues, but I read one post where they sent it back under warranty and had no more battery discharge problems. The Flir website mentions using a 1A charger, and updating the firmware via the app. It has a one year warranty and I need a toy while I'm stuck at home. :*)

I didn't look, the S62 has a much better sensor than the S61, which is better than the S60. It appears the S62 is the same as the FLIR one Pro - But by better FLIR, I am talking about integrated to the device, no adapter to lose, connection to break, etc. This is probably as good of a list as you can find. https://reductionrevolution.com.a...ir-thermal

Can I find a rat/mouse in the house with this?

I opened a hole in my bathroom drywall to find/fix an in-wall leak.

I'm still drying the inside of the wall, thus haven't patched up the hole yet. But, I think a mouse stuck in and is somewhere in the house now.

I have traps placed, but they have yet to be tripped.

1. What do you do if you find thermal insufficiency or leakage of electrical outlets with this? Hire an electrician?

2. What are other applications for this? What else do you guys use it for?

2. I want it to check my windows in the house I just bought that was built in 98. I'm pretty sure all of them are bad and/or need sealed around edge or thermalseals fixed. Also have a basement that's drafty so to find those spots and seal up. Also have an attached garage that's unfinished so it would be good to find cold spots. But I would only need it for like a month after checking everything. There wouldn't be a point once everything is sealed up in your house to keep it. Going to try and see if a buddy will split it so we both can use.

Your advice is still good advice. I'm just saying it's not the end of the world if you do have to replace the battery.

I'm going to do this in mine as well. Batteries are $10 or so on eBay, if you're not in a rush to replace. My Gen 2 battery only lasts about 10 minutes, so I'm hoping a new battery will give it some extra life.
