I have the older version of this and while the battery is not meant to be user serviceable, replacing it yourself is both easy and cheap. A new battery is about $15 on Amazon and replacing it just involves using a shim to pop the case open. ifixit.com has a guide.
Your advice is still good advice. I'm just saying it's not the end of the world if you do have to replace the battery.
This same unit was on SD a couple weeks ago for $108 shipped direct from FLIR. Received mine before Christmas, works great btw.
You can use the real deal ( Flir or Fluke) for free ( SF for me or check your Utilty Co. ) https//pge.myturn.com/library/ Free tool loan!

For anyone that insists this is more of a gimmick and not for practical use, I was asked by someone what parts of the seat heats up on my vehicle's seat heater. I was able to crank up the seat heaters, and then take a picture of the seats. It shows you where the heating elements are located. It will also come in handy if those elements ever fail and I need to take the vehicle in for service. I can show them what is failing.
Does this work without a phone? I'm thinking of rigging it up to a drone and taking a video of my roof, then downloading it to the phone when it lands. Is that possible with this model?

That is a hilarious joke! I'm adding it to my list of humorous dinner party stories!
I had one of these, it was awesome! I used it to find the source of cold air leaks in our harsh New Hampshire winters. I found the spots, insulated/added weather stripping, then did after photos and compared. It made a huge difference, and I can see the savings on my electric / gas bills. I tried to do it from the outside as well but the temp fluctuations weren't as obvious as cold air leaking into a warm room inside.
I didn't really need it anymore after that, so I sold it for $150 to a beekeeper. I don't know what she'll use it for, but she said it was for the bees. Retained its value well.
