Cricket phones can be used with any cricket SIM, and you can insert SIM in any at&t or unlocked phone ( with proper APN for data).
If you don't care to use Cricket for the month you already paid, don't Activate and the port will cancel ( I believe in 60 days ) . I'm not sure if you can Port that # elsewhere while Cricket initiated the process already.
I have seen strange behavior while the number is halfway porting ( missed calls and text, can only call out , but not receive ) , so you may not want to use your primary #.
As confirmed by OP, port in number would active in old carrier and need to take action to cancel or port out from old carrier. In cricket, without manual activation, we can port out the same number elsewhere and let the port in request cancel.

Thanks for the info, so if I don't manually activate Cricket sim, the port in will not complete. I may use the port in number again for other carriers, in my case , I used Visible and Ting number for porting to Cricket, these numbers can possibly be used again ?

Just give some info regarding Ting, I just found that the ting numbers on 3 of my accounts all got suspended or deactivated. Don't know what caused the shutdown, I only ported out one number from each account ? lost all the credit on the accounts, called and was told due to security reasons, nothing can be done to solve the issue. Be careful guys with Ting.

Port out the same number might have issues. I had one number on cricket, first tried to port to metro, failed somehow, then tried to port to visible. Visible took the number initially, after a few days, got an email said there is a pending port on this number, the second port in couldn't go through.

Thanks again, greatly appreciate your help. Just found that Ting suspended all three accounts I created very recently, thought I could use the account to harvest a few numbers for porting use, now this is done, guess they may already blocked my address /credit cards for new accounts.

Ting also unsuspended my ting account, which was my first time dealing with Ting, even before I tried to activate a sim card. I was unable to activate the x1 sim card bought from bestbuy.I called them and Ting sent me a new x3 sim card. When I tried to activate the new x3 sim card, I noticed that I couldn't login. I called Ting and they told me that they could not activate any sim card for me due to security reasons and asked me to choose other carriers. I don't know why they somehow profiled me as fraud and blacklisted me when this was my first time trying to be a ting customer. The only reason I can think of is that I asked about the $30 credits which were supposed to come with the x1 sim card I bought from bestbuy, when Ting ordered a new x3 sim card for me. Ting must be thinking I am not a customer who wants to actually pay them extra after the $30 credits.

Sad to hear, wasted a lot of time with them, if the sims were not $1, would have lost much more. I am also new to Ting, not impressed, with competition from other carriers, their price is much higher if everything added up. I remember when Ringplus went belly up a few years ago, they took the customers and didn't treat them fairly.

2/16/21: deal as originally started appears to be dead. the Activation fee is no longer waived.
and there's almost 200 pages to read through, going back more than a month. I was hoping someone could tell me what the out-the-door cost would be to get the OnePlus Nord N10 5G and cancel as soon as possible. Also, do GV numbers work for port?

Price varies from stores to stores.
GV won't work.
You don't have to cancel, just don't pay for the 2nd month for it to off the service on its own.
Just make sure autopay is off if the store put you on
