Boss Audio BE10ACP Car Stereo -Android CarPlay Digital Multimedia Receiver - $229 at Autozone B&M only, $329 everywhere else

Link for reference only. B&M only, Autozone web guys couldn't find it when I called but it was sitting on the shelf at the local store. Appears to be their regular price, not sure why they're $100 cheaper than any other seller. Maybe even cheaper with a coupon.

Boss Audio BE10ACP Digital Multimedia Receiver with (wired) Android Auto and CarPlay, 10.1" capacitive touchscreen, rear and front camera inputs, USB charging, removable and adjustable screen, external mic, etc.

Yeah, I know, Boss audio isn't known for high quality but for $250 out the door at your local Autozone, you're getting a LOT of bang for not much buck. I looked around and the closest big name that compares feature to feature is an Alpine unit that is $999. I've had it in my car for a few days and I'm very happy with it. So much so that I bought a second one for my wife's car. When I bought the second one, I mentioned that I was trying to buy it online as there was a discount available but it shows as in store only. The guy at the store gave me a 10% discount. YMMV.
Waiting on the install kit to be delivered so I can install hers. Single DIN so if you have double din like our cars, you'll need a kit with some kind of space filler. Crutchfield said it doesn't "fit" my car as but it went in using the same single DIN kit I got from them for the JVC (No screen or carplay and the Bluetooth was going out) I replaced with this one.
Crutchfield, Amazon, etc. all have this unit for $329. Good reviews at that price. For $100 less than that I imagine the reviews would be even better.
Unit comes with 3 year warranty from Boss. Autozone also gives a 1 year in store repair/replacement warranty with this unit. Details on your receipt.

Just an FYI for everyone dogpiling BOSS and thinking you should go Jensen or JVC or Kenwood or whatever... First, the BOSS is not as deep as the Jensen, so for instance the Jensen won't fit in my dash to begin with, but the BOSS will. And JVC and Kenwood are both terrible until you spend $500+ or spend less but only get a single-din "normal" style radio. Ive had all of the above in my CTS in the last year. Currently I have a PX6-powered 12.8 inch rotating Android 8.0 touchscreen radio, but I am replacing it with the BOSS to have something newer with higher audio quality. For this being a place with people obsessed with deals, you'd think everyone would have jumped on the guy saying he got an Android radio from Amazon... Guarantee you could have gotten the same radio from one of the Ali____ sites for 1/3rd the price, maybe less.

Amazon and Ebay are grey market enough most (may not get a warranty with those but at least you have a month or so to do a return if you end up with a turd). Sites like you mentioned are typically "all sales are final" type places. I don't blame them for getting electronics from Amazon (especially in the $200 & ^ range). Small things I don't mind getting from shady sellers. As to what you were saying about the stigmatism with Boss products you can certainly count me as one of the skeptical ones even though I grabbed one of these (too good to pass up as long as it turns out okay). You have to realize that I (along with some others in this thread I presume) came from an era where those non major audio brands like Boss or Pyramid were flea market brands and you essentially got what you paid for in most circumstances. A lot of modern tech along with R&D goes into creating a headunit these days (especially ones with android auto/carplay) so you can see why I would be a little leery. But I'm willing to accept that things change. I mean look at Samsung. If you told me 20-25 years ago that they make great memory products and are neck and neck with Sony in the display department I would've laughed my ass off. I bought a few Samsung products back then like a microwave and I know I also had an optical drive of theirs and they were trash. Their stuff would last the warranty period and then self destruct. Like I said, between the price and the fact that it's a major retailer I was willing to take a chance. Also purchased it with my Costco card just in case their warranty is crap.

I'm not 100% sure what you are saying exactly. In my opinion, it's such a cheap and easy thing to put in (a little wireless antenna) that it's surprising that Kenwood, Alpine, etc. don't.

Almost all of the Android options on the market all have Android Auto as a wireless option. That way if you want to tether with a cable or tether wirelessly, you have that choice.
That's not true. Not all the Android phones support that function, you need Android 11. BTW, Wireless Android Auto wireless is via 5GHz WiFi.

Does this support various cameras? My Cr-v has both rear and passenger cameras that auto display when backing up or making a right.

This has two camera inputs but only the rear is auto switching.. With more modern vehicles like that you're probably going to run into a lot of problems most likely. I would grab a head unit off of Crutchfield in your scenario simply because you're gonna need a bunch of adapters and most definitely support when you run into trouble. Think I said it in a previous post but car manufacturers incorporate a bunch of other crap into the stereo now so they're non replaceable. For example my wife has a 2019 VW sport wagon and the factory head unit has a whole bunch of vehicle settings and information such as tire pressure and service reminders built into it. Because of this the only things you could probably do to that stereo is replace the speakers and since factory head units typically don't have much power an amp would most certainly need to be added (one with speaker line inputs). Have you hit any forums yet? You may be able to swap out your head unit from an upgraded CRV or maybe even one from a model year or two newer. If it's tied into the CAN bus system you still may have to hit up a dealership afterwards for programming. You have a lot to look into LOL.

Thanks for the in depth response. I look into this occasionally, as my MY CR-V doesn't have much in the way of integration - e.g. no Android Auto for example. As you said, gone are the days of simple radios where you just got the right DIN/sleeve and wiring harness and you were good to go.

It's possible I'm mixing something up but as far as I've seen, many of the Android head units have Wi-Fi. That then allows you to tether through via hotspot. The Atoto also has two separate Bluetooth connections, which can be used simultaneously, one for music and one for data. Apparently many of the units have this, so that's another way to tether. You can also tether via cable.

Got the unit hooked up tonight. Jury is still out on a lot of things but will give a few quick observations on the installation since the documentation is rather lacking. Not stated in the owner's manual, but the steering wheel control input is a 1/8" stereo input (can just take a cable if you have one or a pair of earbuds and cut the cable to expose the 3 wires and use that to connect to the car's steering control wires). My vehicle only has 2 wires so I hooked it up the same way that it was with the previous aftermarket unit (one of the inputs and the ground). Only vol +/- work but don't control the volume at all like they should. They control the channel +/- or back/forward. This is to be expected since there's no way to configure the steering wheel controls and I'm not entirely sure that an interface will make a difference either (most modern head units let you select a function of the radio and then you press a steering wheel button to assign it). Another thing that I believe was missing from the installation wiring diagram is the backup/reverse wire input (shows a power wire for it but that's something else). It's there though so don't be worried. Microphone is much larger than typical ones and has a foam windscreen on it (don't know if that's necessary or not yet). Another thing worth mentioning is that in the instructions it says to connect the green parking brake wire to "power" (whatever the hell that means). I just connected it to ground like I usually do with any multimedia/in-dash DVD player type radio. Seems to work but can't be 100% sure yet. Wouldn't play some mp4 files I had on a flash drive but it's a mystery what this actually supports anyway. Haven't driven around yet but screen seems nice and solid and is hard to move around - some reviews mentioned something about it being kind of wobbley but I'm thinking that they didn't have the head unit solidly mounted (they probably used those junky sleeves which I always throw away. I opted to use 4 of those included short fat screws into the sides of the unit). Screen seems nice and bright and the dimmer function seems to work good when you turn on the headlights. Will do a road test early tomorrow morning in the dark to see how it fairs, but I'm thinking that some of the reviewers didn't have it set up properly. For one, there's that dimmer wire I mentioned but then there's screen settings in the options for day brightness and night along with gamma (gamma seems more like a mismarked contrast setting). Turning the gamma down a bit for the night time setting seems to soften it a bit but I also noticed that there's a setting for background brightness (only applies if you're not using android auto and just streaming via blutooth or whatever but I wonder if they saw that setting). And if they were using Android Auto I wonder if they have their maps set up correctly where you can have everything darker colors at night automatically. Preamp outputs seem to be fairly powerful, well much better than the kenwood's I was using since I was able to turn the gains down on my amp to normal levels. Wish there were a couple of more features like high pass filters for the preamp outputs and more selectable frequencies for the sub output (been kind of spoiled with that with my last several head unit purchases). Another one that's missing is speaker distance settings for time alignment. Even that cheap Kenwood I ripped out had that. There's a lot of cancellation that goes on in a vehicle since it's such a tight space and having time alignment set up makes a noticeable difference. Not too big of a deal and I'm sure half the people that have that feature don't actually use it LOL. Anyway, I'll post back in a day or two with an update.

I never understood the wireless Android auto and car play feature. You're paying a premium for it when you probably are going to have to plug in the phone anyway if you're using android auto/car play features like GPS. Most modern vehicles with it aren't even wireless.
I used to think this, but with my vehicle which has AA and car play out of factory, for short drives I'd love it. My car can be a pain to connect sound output via bluetooth as I have to select a few things. There are many times I don't want to charge/plug in my phones but want access to either AA OR car play for a shorter drive.

Thanks OP. Picked one up for our Grand Caravan.

Our daughter is in a wheelchair, so I'm hoping to entertain her on long trips to CHOP. My wife was jealous when I installed bluetooth head units in our other two vehicles, and I wanted Android Auto capability.

Got around to ordering this [crutchfield.com] today to see if that will get the steering wheel controls working. Got to get those working. It's one of those things that once you have it for a few years, can't go back to not having it. Plus I can't stand the super small slippery volume knob. Couldn't they add a little texture to it LOL? Anyone else get around to installing theirs yet? Have this weird issue where the unit powered off for a brief second while driving twice. Did it once yesterday while on my way to work right as I was pulling in (after about an hour of use) and again this morning after about 45 minutes. One of two things, when I pull the head unit out again for that SWC adapter (it's a process in this vehicle) I'm going remove the two noise isolators on the power inputs (they're super old at this point and probably don't need them like I did on the POS Kenwood). Another possibility is that the display loses connection (it is a pretty junky connector as one of the reviewers was mentioning). Hope it's not that! Or the unit just has something wrong with it. Only other flakiness I came across is that I set the night dimmer the lowest setting (which is 1) and daytime to 10 and the daytime keeps on changing to 1 like the night setting (Edit: believe this happens after powering off and back on but need to test a couple of more scenarios to see exactly what triggers it). Strangely the gamma setting remains what I set it though. Display is a smidge too bright at night too (that is probably contingent on environment and the layout of the vehicle - if the headunit is lower in the dash and kind of far away then it might be fine). There's ways around it though. I use the poweramp app for my music playback and that's mostly darker colors and if that's still too bright then you can click on the clock on the upper right corner and the display will show just the date and time on a black background while the music and GPS still march on (Edit: Should note that the clock display trick is while using bluetooth streaming and using the poweramp interface is while using android auto). Anyway sounds all bad, but I'm mostly happy with the features/functions. The aftermarket rearview camera looks pretty good on the display (much better than it did on the Kenwood I had) and it even attenuates the music while reversing (kind of feature you usually only see on factory systems). Another feature I like is the delay off for the unit. Unfortunately the max is 3 seconds. Something more like 30 seconds would be excellent. One other thing worth mentioning which is pretty much a negative is that the USB charging power is kind of low. Only changes the phone about 5-10% over the course of an hour plus drive with android auto running.

Edit: Did the exact same thing this morning on my way to work around 45-50 minutes of use. Also, I can replicate it by unplugging the USB cable while Android auto is playing (screen goes blank for a quick second then it goes back to the home screen and makes a small beep). Cable is good but I'm going to try another one just in case. Could be some weirdness with the phone itself. Doesn't feel hot or anything though. Kind of leaning more towards the head unit. Maybe running the heat in the morning makes it overheat. Too many possibilities.

Was able to score this deal from my local Autozone as well. I had been looking for head units with Android Auto for my 08 FJ Cruiser and didn't want to spend a ton as I only plan on keeping it 2-3 years. I was torn about buying a Boss since I've never really heard good things about them but for this price and the features this unit has I decided to give it a shot. I'll try to update when I get this thing installed. This will be my first install actually having to connect the wiring myself. I've been lucky with most of my other installs being plug and play.

I got a BOSS unit from a previous deal, you get what you pay for - didn't work with steering wheel adapter & was a PITA dealing with their customer service

Is kenwood really the same as jvc? That sucks. Jvc crapped out in my tacoma and I really am hesitant in buying another one. The pioneer in it now has terrible bluetooth capabilities. Phone calls are terrible. Ugh decisions
