"It doesn't come with memory, hard drive, and OS. You will have to buy the memory module, the hard drive, and the OS separately and install it yourself."
That is on the questions and answers. Granted it is an I7 processor.

Now for anyone looking for a BASIC nettop that includes hard drive (can add a micro SD), memory and OS.Basic Nettop search Amazon for this:
Mini PC AWOW Mini Desktop Computer Windows 10 Intel Celeron J4115 with 8GB DDR4/ NVMe M.2 128GB SSD with Triple Display 4K@60Hz,Extended SSD 2TB(not Include), WiFi,HDMI2,USB4,BT5.0,Gigabit Ethernet

$ 229 - 20 buck coupon = $ 209 plus tax free shipping.

Granted it is a Celeron quad core processor but for basic web surfing, video playing and documents it is fine for parents. Just make sure your monitor has a VESA mount in back to mount the box. I only have 1080p monitor and TV but I have to say using the filters on my FREE splash video player I can adjust the filters with no lag on 1080P.

CPU : Intel Celeron J4115
CPU Cores and Threads: 4Cores , 4 Threads
CPU Frequency: Base Frequency: 1.8GHz / Burst Frequency: 2.5GHz
GPU: Intel 9th Gen UHD Graphics 600
RAM: 8GB LPDDR4 SSD: 128GB NVMe M.2 SSD
WiFi: Dual band WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (Model: Intel Wireless-AC 9461)
Bluetooth: BT5.0 (Model: Intel 9461)
LAN: Gigabit Ethernet

Great. But again, that should be in the description, rather than saying "RAM 64 GB" there.

Yes, but in the title there is no mention of 64 GB of RAM included and in the features & details it says 'dual so-dimm ddr4 supports up to 2666mhz, 64gb' so you know how much RAM you can add.

Is what a joke? Am I making a joke? You can click the deal link and find text I quoted, so no. Are the people answering the questions making a joke? Heck if I know. Like I said, there's a lot of conflicting information here.
If you look at the link, it is clearly a barebones system, so you need to add your own RAM, SSD and OS.

It ALSO says "RAM 64 GB" in the description. It is a direct quote from there. That information indicates it's already there and in no way conflicts with the later statement that 64 GB is the max supported.

Right near the top of the Amazon link it says "RAM 64 GB". That's probably where the data in the description came from. If you go down a bit on the Amazon page to "Compare with similar items", for "This item" it clearly shows "Computer Memory Size" as "64.0 GB" even though the other items show "0" and "8 GB". So even if "Computer Memory Size" means Max Memory Size, Amazon still isn't being consistent. Nowhere in the page does it use the word "barebone" or make any reference to RAM being missing and needing to be installed separately (outside of the Q&A).

That is just a specification requirement for the amount of memory for items in the computers section. All of the listing are required to have a memory specification so you know how much can be added. Nowhere does it says the RAM is included and the listing makes it clear it's a barebones's PC. As if that was not sufficiently clear, good luck finding a brand new 10th Gen i7 PC with 64 GB RAM for $500.

I've already stated I don't see anything about "barebone" in the listing. Can you please point out where it is "clear" it's a barebones PC? Several other individuals after me have also pointed out in the comments as a warning that the RAM isn't installed, and there are several questions about it in the listing, so I don't think it is as clear as you think it is.

Common sense says the statement "RAM 64 GB" is referring to installed, not max. This is how most other PC listings work. Potential customers should not be expected to assume that is only the max amount supported and explicitly look for the word "installed" or "included" to determine how much RAM is actually installed if they were to find the term "RAM 64 GB".

I agree that finding a new PC with 64 GB of RAM for only $500 is unlikely, hence why I went digging in the first place. The result of that digging was my first comment on this thread, so I could share with others what I learned.

I agree, the way the specs are listed anyone can and will assume that this comes with RAM. I think it would be nice to include in the description that no RAM comes with this purchase.

Like many other folks here, I also got tricked into believing it has 64 GB of RAM included. If it supports up to 64 GB, then it should say "Supports up to 64 GB of RAM", or at least "Up to 64 GB RAM", rather than "RAM 64 GB", which is what would be written if it actually had 64 GB.

Did you even read any of the questions in the listing? It was clearly asked and answered. I would agree that the listing on Amazon could be clearer, but less than 1 minute into the page on Amazon, it was clear (to me at least) that it was a barebones unit.

"Question: Does this have an os installed? how many mb of ram does this unit have?
Answer1: It doesn't come with memory, hard drive, and OS. You will have to buy the memory module, the hard drive, and the OS separately and install it yourself
Answer 2: This is sold bare bones so would need to purchase ram, ssd, and os separately."

I find it interesting that people state this is a a good deal, but will look at the $699 mac mini and claim it's too expensive.

Mini comes with an OS, RAM, and hard drive. It also has thunderbolt ports.

Yes, I've seen the Q&A, evidenced by me quoting it already in the comments and referencing it several times (including saying "there are several questions about it in the listing" in the comment you quoted). I typically don't go to the Q&A section unless I have a question, nor should anyone be expected to go to the Q&A section to learn corrections to basic information about the product elsewhere in the page.

For me, this is not a good deal. However, I won't consider that Apple either, due to various reasons.

This is absolutely not for your mother. This is a kit PC that is designed for the people with some PC skills. It's expensive if you add necessary parts and a copy of the operating system. For your mother, get a used and cheap 4th Generation i3 Intel PC.
