Apple iPhone XS models (including large capacities and Max variants) are all $199 in-store at Walmart as of this weekend. Definitely a YMMV since these are not showing up in online inventories.

NOTE: Brickseek is showing "NO RESULTS" and Walmart.com is saying "Out of stock" for all SKUs (I checked them all). However, all 4 of the stores I checked in-person did have inventory. This seems very unusual, but I purchased a 256GB XS Max for $199 this afternoon at a store in my area so there are some models out there.

Walmart listing (shows no inventory; see note above) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-.../109707311

No contract/commitment required, but I believe these are only setup to work only with AT&T. I have AT&T so I haven't explored this further.

Clarification: No AT&T account info was needed to checkout. I just asked for the phone at the electronics counter, paid the total, and walked out. I charged the phone, swapped the SIM from my existing phone, and was up and running.

Just went to Walmart store and they told me that they would only sell $199 with a new line. I showed them the language (pay In full) but they wouldn't budge. They said that's only for new line activations. Either they are right or some Walmart employee is going home with a new iPhone XS. FYI. I reserved the phone and it took them 30 minutes to figure out how to get my reservation pulled up. Reminds me how much I hate Walmart. I'd put this deal one level higher than YMMV maybe ITGALSOUAS. If the gods are looking down on you and smiling 😀. Good luck on the hunt.
One final update. I just went to a second store. This Walmart associate was much nicer and more helpful. They had 3 in stock for AT&T and it was ringing up at $249. However there was a sticker that said it was for prepaid only and that you had to activate and something about either activate or return unopened. Didn't want to worry about opening it and not being able to use it or return it. Chances are I should have bought, but In the end I need it for Verizon and I should restate...I didn't actually NEED IT. Hope I don't regret not picking it up (sometimes no means no, is what I myself 😀)

How can I check out online then? I don't see the option.
On Walmart.com - should be a link near top-center of page to check for in-store availability. Not for ordering/checkout - but may find an option to reserve for pickup.

Do you have to activate in store, or just pay and activate later?

Anyone who's successfully purchased without signing up for a plan/upgrading a line with the Verizon iPhones, please explain what/how the employee checked you out, if they mentioned anything about how they did it in their system.

Its supposedly supposed to be done with WARP. Like the Pixel 3a XL deal. 99% of the reps won't do it, because they don't make commission. Plus I had a hard ass time getting a rep to do the Pixel for us. We finally caved and opened up a line.

Have never purchased a phone from Walmart. Do I need to activate at all (selected Verizon), or just pay for the phones and be on my way?
Neither had I until today. Walked in, paid for the phone, came home and activated and popped in my sim. Done!

This would help clear up some of the confusion -- did they just ring you out? Or was it required that they pull up your AT&T account and sign for a bunch of stuff?
Did not pull up AT&T account info at all. Just a normal checkout at the electronics counter. Like buying a $200 candy bar, hah.

So, tell them they have to us out using WARP for this deal? And then slip them a $20? Lol

Nobody in this thread seems to want to share the exact situation when the associate attempts to ring up the phones and if the regular registers allow it or does it have to go through warp or troc
