Apple iPhone XS models (including large capacities and Max variants) are all $199 in-store at Walmart as of this weekend. Definitely a YMMV since these are not showing up in online inventories.

NOTE: Brickseek is showing "NO RESULTS" and Walmart.com is saying "Out of stock" for all SKUs (I checked them all). However, all 4 of the stores I checked in-person did have inventory. This seems very unusual, but I purchased a 256GB XS Max for $199 this afternoon at a store in my area so there are some models out there.

Walmart listing (shows no inventory; see note above) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-.../109707311

No contract/commitment required, but I believe these are only setup to work only with AT&T. I have AT&T so I haven't explored this further.

Clarification: No AT&T account info was needed to checkout. I just asked for the phone at the electronics counter, paid the total, and walked out. I charged the phone, swapped the SIM from my existing phone, and was up and running.

I have tried XS and XS MAX from this deal. Both 64gb as they didn't have any other version in stock.

XS MAX IS UNLOCKED.
XS is FLEX RESELLER LOCKED.

Why?
-XS MAX didn't ask any sim to be inserted to activate. where xs needs sim, it will not work as wifi device without sim. my friend tried with tmobiel which was scanned as sprint at walmart and it locked to tmobile. i tried different sim in that phone and it doesn't work.
- i tried unlocking with att as non customer without even booting the phone and got approval in a minute but for XS, got IMEI mismatch. so my guess is xs max was unlocked out of box. to be on safe side, i inserted cricket sim in xs max and it was fine. then i checked with verizon and then with tmobile. all worked fine.
-later i checked online report and it shows unlocked.

one other person posted his xs max was unlocked which makes me believe xs max comes unlocked through walmart. well, atleast for this deal.
I got two xs max(Verizon), 64G is unlocked but 256G is US Reseller Flex Policy.

Thank you OP and wspfan! I reserved a 256GB XS Max at a store 30 minutes away and went there after work. The young lady found a space gray and a gold XS Max phone. I wanted the space gray. She took it to the WARP station, quickly looked confused, and started looking around for help. I had a cropped screenshot of wspfan's steps and showed her. She was able to figure it out. There ended up being two more employees watch her ring it up. I bet the other phone is already gone.
Glad this helped. I figured since no one posted exact instructions, this would work. I spent hours at a location with a clueless rep. Had to call over 10 Walmart locations to get an expert explain correct way to do this.

Lots of people being told wrong info at store!!

You do NOT have to have a Verizon/att/sprint l plan or service for activation. Nor do you need a new line. It's total bs. They can sell the phone for $199. Demand to speak to a supervisor or manager and explain Walmart's policy and these companies forcing you into a contract for commissions.

>>>Read my comment back a few pages on getting success.
Is OSL the same as T-Roc employees?

I got one this afternoon pulling the needing a line crap, the supervisor agreed & the WM Mgr walked away.

Where do I get a random AT&T sim?
Ask your friends if they have expired, used or unactivate sims. If you use an active sim, Make sure the line on that sim doesn't have eip or contract on it.

Did you get it through a reservation? Is not showing up for me
Yes, I reserved online. But it does not matter if you reserve. There is one more left. The wireless man would not give it without a contract.

I just want to give some tips to you guys if you got phones from this deal:

*Don't put MVNO sim in in because the phone will get locked to that carrier. I know couple people bought phones at Apple, paid full price. But they put boost sims in when they first started the phones and their phones got locked to boost mobile. They had to stay with boost for 12 months in order to unlock the phones
*The easiest way to get this type of phone unlocked is insert a normal att sim in and request unlock through att website
*I saw someone mentioned in this post that the phone is unlocked because he/she didn't have to put a sim in to go through activation. Well, Apple changed that months ago. Now, You don't need a sim to go through activation
That wouldn't happen with a apple unlocked device that only happens on us reseller flex phones sold at stores like Walmart or bestbuy

i don't know about this policy as i have got couple of phones from cricket and tracfone and they all worked without sim. you could use it as wifi device without sim. but this one didn't. moreover, i wrote other things which make me believe it was unlocked and it eventually turned out to be unlocked.

One question, if I have a us reseller flex policy iphone and I have been using att prepaid for years. Can I activate the phone using att prepaid sim , then request att to unlock it ? I know att postpaid can do it but not sure about pepaid.
