Apple iPhone XS models (including large capacities and Max variants) are all $199 in-store at Walmart as of this weekend. Definitely a YMMV since these are not showing up in online inventories.

NOTE: Brickseek is showing "NO RESULTS" and Walmart.com is saying "Out of stock" for all SKUs (I checked them all). However, all 4 of the stores I checked in-person did have inventory. This seems very unusual, but I purchased a 256GB XS Max for $199 this afternoon at a store in my area so there are some models out there.

Walmart listing (shows no inventory; see note above) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-.../109707311

No contract/commitment required, but I believe these are only setup to work only with AT&T. I have AT&T so I haven't explored this further.

Clarification: No AT&T account info was needed to checkout. I just asked for the phone at the electronics counter, paid the total, and walked out. I charged the phone, swapped the SIM from my existing phone, and was up and running.

Anyone know if a phone now locked to verizon for 60 days, does it need to be powered on that whole time, or can I keep it in a drawer and on day 61 it should power on and accept a T-Mobile sim?
You do not have to keep it active on Verizon for those 60 days and it will auto unlock. So yes, you can keep it powered off and in a drawer during that time. Initially when you pop in the Verizon sim, I would make a test call to make sure it's registered in their system to start the 60 days.

I am just going off info in the free check on sickw.com, which lists an "estimated purchase date." Although I will say, some of the phones I bought did not have plastic on them or the plastic was ripped.

It says to please activate my device, so I am assuming clock hasn't started.

edited wiki to make the wording informative than being mean. old text below.

If you want to buy w/o carrier activation, this is still possible through WARP but associate may not know how or will refuse. Remember the national retailer (in this case Walmart) makes a commission off each sale regardless of price, so they want to sell you an upgrade or new line. If you attempt to buy w/o carrier you should expect to be treated like the scum that you are. Especially if you use a shit-tier MVNO or dishonest carrier that's too cheap to let any national retailer make any money like T-Mobile. This method is by far the worse and should not be attempted unless you want to kill the deal (outside the very small chance you succeed) at your store.

Just got a reservation for an Verizon XS Max. Only device available in any of the stores in my area. Not confident they actually have it but worth the drive I suppose.

Your luck depends on the store employees. Most of the employees never used WARP system before and/or not willing to do it. They will direct you to the "wireless guy" - a 3rd-party contractor who sells you plans.

If you really want to fight for it, here's what I recommend (I might be wrong though):
1) You have better luck dealing with store employees (wearing Walmart vest) than dealing with the 3rd-party "wireless guy".
2) Most of the store employees are not aware they COULD sell phones. They always tell you that they are not allowed to sell phones. Ask to speak with a electronic team leader, supervisor or store manager.
3) Even so, the leader, supervisor, manager might have no idea what a WARP system is or not willing to deal with it. Print out the WARP instruction in this thread, show them to the manager and ask politely. If you are persistent, you MIGHT get it. But at the end of the day, it's up to the employee you talk to.

Look it from the bright side, the ignorance of WARP system actually benefits the customers at some point. If all employees are familiar with the WARP system, deals like this will be dead in seconds (you know what I'm talking about).

So I was able to reserve two xs max. I am not a verizon customer, because I use an MVNO. Do I just show up with my reservation confirmation email, tell them I just want the phone and am not activating them, and they will allow me to pay and be on my way home? Thanks!

It depends. Some employees allow you to do that (if they know what WARP system is). Some insist that you have to deal with the "wireless guy" - a 3rd-party contractor who will not give you the phone unless you sign up for service or do an "upgrade" (basically renew your contract). Because he got paid for that.

This is indeed the slickdeal of the year. You should have raised out a loan, bought as many as you could and resold on ebay. Heck, if I knew of this earlier I could have made $20K to 30K on profits alone by going and wiping out the stock clean in all the neighboring stores.

When ? During reservation on website? (I'm not sure if that option was presented. I just remember the price being $199). At pickup? Thanks!

Reserved my phone yesterday, went in and the phone rep had left early for the day. Online now it shows no phones available at my location. Is my phone still there, or did someone else work the system better and got it?
