Apple iPhone XS models (including large capacities and Max variants) are all $199 in-store at Walmart as of this weekend. Definitely a YMMV since these are not showing up in online inventories.

NOTE: Brickseek is showing "NO RESULTS" and Walmart.com is saying "Out of stock" for all SKUs (I checked them all). However, all 4 of the stores I checked in-person did have inventory. This seems very unusual, but I purchased a 256GB XS Max for $199 this afternoon at a store in my area so there are some models out there.

No contract/commitment required, but I believe these are only setup to work only with AT&T. I have AT&T so I haven't explored this further.

Clarification: No AT&T account info was needed to checkout. I just asked for the phone at the electronics counter, paid the total, and walked out. I charged the phone, swapped the SIM from my existing phone, and was up and running.

I really want to pursue this but I got burned really badly when Walmart had those Pixel phones for $30. The store actually had one but refused to sell it to me, even after I tried signing up for a Sprint plan. So my local Walmarts can suck it when it comes to these phone deals...

Well, supposedly, I have a Silver XS Max 64GB reserved for me at my nearest store. They actually called me back to say that it was in stock and asked me when I would come in to finish the purchase...
What do you think my chances are? I've read up on how they need to use the WARP system, but will it work? I'm with Mint and I really don't want to have to activate with Verizon then cancel and then wait for 60 days...

Ask if they know how to use warp and then ask can I buy device only. Good luck!

Can activate with Verizon, cancel and try ebay unlock for $7. Don't know if it works or not.

I picked up two xs Max without adding a line today.. The associate finding the phone didn't know how to sell without adding a line, but another associate showed her how to do it. Good deal, and thanks slickdeals

I live in a major city and do not see any of these ymmv or brickseek deals and have given up completely. Not sure if these walmart workers know about it and decides to keep all the items to themselves and flip them on eBay or hold it for their friends. If I was a stock boy, I would do that.. so yeah.. I stopped seeking for them, it is a complete waste of time.

Good news if it's bad news is that you'll have proof of purchase so even though Apple will say it's out of warranty by IMEI/SN they can update that based on when it was actually bought.

So if it is not booting up, my best bet is to take it to an Apple store and see if they can help me out there? As opposed to driving back to Walmart to buy either a non Max or a Max that is less capacity? Thanks!

That would be my suggestion. Walmart requires the phone to go back to the original store and that seems like a crap shoot to get taken care of right even if they have inventory (and part of why they want to activate and test the phones when they go out so they're not getting hit with the swaps). Apple they'd probably be able to get it taken care of on the spot, slight chance they would want to send it out for repair instead of swapping it depending what GSX tells them to do but would get resolved with no cost at least. Just make sure to make an appointment since I think that's the only way they'll see you right now. Theoretically you could take it to a Best Buy for Geek Squad AASP too but they wouldn't have access to do the over rides on the warranty and would have to submit everything to Apple and wait for review.

$150 profit for resellers doesn't seem worth it to me to drive, park, and enter a Walmart nowadays. Thanks anyway OP.
