Woodworking. Glue ups, you can buy pipe by the foot and make clamps to your desired length.

Definitely not a stupid question. My brother asked for a pipe clamp a couple years ago for Christmas and I had no idea what he meant. Typically you use Black Iron Pipe, easily found in Lowe's or HD, and they can cut it down to size from 10' to a shorter length:

Makes for a cheap, strong, and very lengthy clamp when making larger items like a desktop or entertainment center, etc.

Threaded iron pipe. The pipes can be kind of dirty though so beware if clamping something, you might need some scrap spacers

Rigid conduit also works but might not be quite as strong and it might cost more.

Believe I've seen conduit in Lowe's but I don't remember if it was EMT or rigid.

Just found it on Lowe's:

3/4 iron pipe but use paper or wrap the pipe in tape or it can oxidize and leave stains on your wood. Might have better luck with galvanized 3/4 pipe its only a bit more.

Galvanized steel pipe is the way to go. Just one side needs to be threaded so you can buy a longer pipe and cut it to length.

Note that for woodworking, you don't really need 3/4" pipe. 1/2" pipe should be sufficient and you save on weight and cost.
