I'm using 2160p, 30fps, and it'd die within 15 mins indoors, running off USB with the battery removed.
They didn't upgrade the processor, though they added some features. Why in the world they didn't get a newer proc is beyond me.

I wonder if it more comes down to what you're trying to do with it. Shooting continuously in ultra high quality in a stationary environment (a kids soccer game or a play) might be better suited to a real video camera or just bumping down the quality (more manageable file size too). Some folks doing that have had success adding heat sinks to the case. High action shots with lots of air flow (it is an action camera after all) might fair better. Finally if you're shooting for edited online videos for Facebook or youtube I would argue 15 minute + clips are actually extraordinarily long. Nobody wants to watch a continuous unedited video longer than that so maybe cut in-camera and use shorter takes? Not to mention the intended audience will mostly be watching on small screens anyway, so do you really need 4K60 or 5K if that's the purpose? 1080p vs. 4K is difficult to distinguish even on normal sized televisions.
Just my 2 cents. Maybe we'll see better processors that generate less heat in the future, but if Canon's best at 10x the cost still has the same limitations I'm not holding my breath. If how you shoot (duration and quality) works better on other cameras then consider those models and skip the feature upgrades of this one.
