how bad is the display? the specs on this machine are just a little under of what i am currently looking at, BUT at nearly 1/2 the cost. i am not going to be sitting on a picnic table in the middle of the afternoon on it. it is an ips display. i am a value guy. i am happy to pay extra for superior quality and features that are important, but i don't want to get ripped off.
You understand HP is the manufacturer and MS is just the seller, right? It's the same laptop purchased anywhere and whatever HP puts inside it.
The Microsoft store actually does carry models such as Dell with no preinstalled bloatware. I am not sure about this HP model but I believe that was what Sand500 was on about.
Ummm could you highlight how or why?
I got my dad the ideapad 5 for Christmas and we both love the screen. Colors pop and very bright non reflective. Easily the best screen on any PC under $1k

Which one is better? I know this one has more Ram, but otherwise if we talk about battery and other specs?

I'll vote for Ideapad for it's build quality and solid performance
