I was checking out the Galaxy S21 Ultra offers here [verizon.com] and noticed an "Upgrade and get $600 off w/trade" button, which was valid on my Galaxy Note 8. A friend of mine also did the same with his Galaxy S8+. The most I was seeing anywhere else for my Note 8 was $250.
Yes, these are monthly bill credits, but I plan on staying with Verizon anyway so not a problem for me. You will also need to be on a select Unlimited 5G plan.
On top of the $600, all preorders are eligible for the Samsung credit as well. For the S21 Ultra preorder, this means I'll be getting an additional $200 in Samsung credit and Samsung SmartTag.
$800 total for my Note 8 to upgrade to the S21 Ultra was a no-brainer for me.

UPDATE:
Turns out the $600 credit is valid on even older models. I canceled my order with the Note 8 trade-in and created a new order where I am trading in an inactive Google Pixel 2 64GB that I had. If you click on the promotion and then "See all details and additional offers" there is a dropdown with all phones eligible for the $600 credit. It includes iPhone6 and newer, Galaxy Note5 and newer, Galaxy S7 and newer and a bunch of other Motorola, LG, and OnePlus phones.

UPDATE 2:
Check under "Account" and then "My offers" and there could be one that says "Galaxy S21. Get $300 off. Save on the latest from Samsung when you upgrade your phone. Online only. Discount applied in cart."
This brought my total discount to $900 off of the S21 Ultra, plus the $200 Samsung credit.

I understand not everyone likes bill credits, but this seems like a no brainer for anyone like myself that has an inactive older device on the account (Galaxy S7) and is looking to upgrade. I just ran through the process and I'll be getting $600 for a phone that I was going to give away. Now I can sell or give away a much nicer S9+. Thanks OP!

A higher effort but slicker deal is to double dip on trade-in promos by purchasing via Best Buy. Best Buy frequently runs trade-in promos especially during product launches and then also trade-in to Verizon using their promos.

The S21 Ultra at BB currently includes a $150 instant down payment from BB and the following trade-in values which are also instantly applied as down payments:

S8 series/Note 8 - $200
S9 series/Note 9 - $300
S10 series - $500
Note 10 series - $650

Then buy a used older device that qualifies for the maximum bill credits at Verizon ($400 for started unl./$600 for higher tier unl.) such as the S6 (can be found for less than $100 at Swappa).

Example:
$1200 - S21 Ultra
- $150 - instant down payment credit
- $650 - Note 10 BB trade-in
+ $100 - Used S6
- $400/600 bill credits (VZW trade-in for both new and upgraded lines)
+ taxes and upgrade fees
- $200 Samsung promo credit

I manage a 10 line Verizon account and have used this method several times in the past few years to get folks on my account the best device deals.

Attached is a screenshot of my line where I upgraded to a Note 20 Ultra ($1300) by trading into BestBuy a Note 9 for $550 + $50 instant credit bringing down my device payment balance to $700. Then I traded in a spare Note 5 I had to Verizon for $500 in bill credits.

Thanks for posting this and repped! I canceled my original order where I was trading in my Note 8 and entered a new order where I am now trading in an inactive Google Pixel 2 i had laying around and collecting dust, and it also gave me the $600 credit. Made this an even better deal for me.

what's the process for getting verizon bill credits when you're not purchasing the phone from them?

Just follow the normal trade-in process. When you meet eligibility for trade-in promos they will get applied to your account/lines. After signing into your account you can walk through a submission in the trade-in portal and see the promotional value - see attached picture.

Prior to COVID I perform tradeins at retail stores. Since the promotion is applied to the account/lines you receive the same value as what's shown in the online portal. I would use the portal to check I was eligible and then went into a retail store. This way I receive and have the bill credits applied immediately and bypass the risk of a 3rd party evaluation of a mailed in phone.

Yeah the unlimited requirement kills this for me. Trying to decide if I want to trade in my s9+ for a base s21, but really seems like a downgrade in a lot of ways, no sd slot, no headphone jack, not much of a RAM bump, and no 5g access on my grandfathered plan. Plus plastic back on the new model too.

They gave $600 for s10+ towards a s21. It showed $272 trade-in value... You have to click through the whole process.

Pretty sure you need to be on one of their new, current Unlimited plans. That seems to be a requirement for all of their promos lately. We were on that same plan as you previously until the end of November when we switched to get the "free" Pixel 5 deal.

Pardon my skepticism, but I'm not seeing how this is possible even with eligibility? You're buying at Best Buy and doing the line upgrade there, not at Verizon. Are they just accepting a random trade-in at the Verizon store and giving bill credits to you?

I have trade-in eligibility for up to $600 off as well, but I don't see how Verizon would just honor this with someone walking into the store and saying "Hey I upgraded this line at Best Buy, please take my old device and give me your $600 bill credits promotion."

The rest all makes sense - BestBuy instant promo, their trade-in promo, stack Samsung Shop promos, etc. But double dipping with the Verizon trade-in after your initial BestBuy purchase - strictly to get the bill credits only from their end, seem suspect...

I do hope I'm completely wrong though, as this would essentially make a S21 Ultra free for me after said bill credits.

thanks for the response! unfortunately I only see the ultra with 128gb so I'll just go with Verizon for the 256gb

unless I can stack with Samsung's website?

Yes it works. I've done this several times in the past few years, most recently with the Note 20 Ultra which I posted the screenshot of. I've talked with Verizon's Trade-in department and have confirmed with them that Best Buy is an eligible sales channel for Verizon and qualifies for their trade-in promotions (FYI - I did not ask under the context of double dipping trade ins). As long as the BB promotion is not a passed through Verizon bill credit promotion BB applies any discount and trade-in credits as downpayments. Verizon has no awareness that you traded in a device to BB.

Now not all my attempts have gone smoothly - sometimes Verizon screws up on their end - but with work have been able to get them all resolved. As with any really slick deal it takes effort.

With the $150 instant discount and very generous trade-in values for the S10/N10 series this is the best BB deal I've seen since the $120 Google Pixel. The S21 Ultra would indeed be "free" with tradein of a S10 and up + another older phone. I'll be upgrading a line myself.

Wow, ok great. So after the Best Buy purchase, you just went to Verizon, stated that you upgraded at Best Buy (Show them phone/line if needed), and then said you wanted to trade in an older device for the trade-in credit?

I totally get every other part. I'm just very curious as to your process once at Verizon attempting the trade in. I just feel like my local ones would look at me and go "No..." or "Are you upgrading a line with us and purchasing today?"
