Can you just replace existing wired smoke detector with this one no issues?

Seems to often sell at this price, which is not good in my opinion.

Also, these are programmed to shut off in exactly 10 years because the CO detector wears out and cannot be replaced as a module.

Yes, but the Google one can't trigger other wired detectors, and other wired detectors can't trigger the Google one.

Doesn't that seem weird? Like Nest is supposed to be advanced technology, and they cant even synchronize their smoke detectors?

Google can trigger their other detectors, just not any of the other brand. It's probably intentional so you're motivated to replace all detectors with their overpriced ones instead of just one or two (which is my plan once these are reasonably priced).

They do with each other.

Oh ok. I misunderstood. So you're basically saying this slickdeal is not so slick, and I should wait?

Also, if you don't have Wifi, does this still work? It should at least trigger the single alarm near the fire right? I have a rental property that will have no Wifi between tenants, but when there is a tenant they should have wifi.

this is a basic iot device. i don't think it commands the price tag that it's selling for here. i can cough up $200 for a nest thermostat but this isn't providing you much value. just get a normal alarm.

To be clear. I already have 1 of these, so if I install 2 more, all 3 will trigger each other? I want to replace my existing ones because I want to stop changing the batteries on them. Thanks.

I disagree with most of you here. If you can afford these and you have a nest thermostat you absolutely should get them.

The best feature of these is that they'll tell your thermostat to shut off the air handler in the event of a fire. This is HUGE. Your HVAC running during a fire is just a giant billow feeding fresh air into it.

There are other notable features including presence monitoring which can help your thermostat schedule automatically around whether or not the home is occupied and they can act as night lights when they detect motion which, if they're mounted at the top of a flight of stairs, as recommended/required, can be quite useful.

Yeah that's right. They will trigger all other Nest Protects. They just don't trigger the existing nom-Nest smoke detectors because it is a different protocol.

Yes. They operate over a wireless mesh network with each other. Rather than triggering over the signal wire. that hardwired alarms have.

They will trigger so long as you connect them to wifi.

If you already have wired detectors, you shouldn't have to change batteries so long as you're using lithium and not alkaline. Alkaline's aren't good for use in detectors.

I bought eight of these (four sets of two) of the hardwired ones to replace my 20-year-old smoke detectors (so now have smoke + CO and not just smoke). They were very easy to change, I enjoy the ceiling lighting that occurs when you walk under it at night, and they check themselves for safety all the time so you know they're working. Was happy with the installations and would buy them again in 10 years when they deactivate at this rate.
