Microsoft has recently announced that the price of Xbox Live Gold is going up. The $60 1 year membership will now be $60 for a 6 month membership. If you are subscribed at the current rate they will honor a renew at your old price.

Retailers are now carrying the new $60 6 month cards. You can get ahead by stocking up on the old cards at their original price points being the price hike. This will make the gamepass trick more expensive too at the new price points, so now is the time.

I've provided a few good prices below. Take advantage while you can.

Costco: 2 years for $95.00

Target: 1 year for $59.99
https://www.target.com/p/xbox-liv...A-54256322

Amazon: 1 year for $59.99

Sort of off topic, but my gamepass ultimate expires in March. Can you still stock up on $30 EA Play codes and redeem them for 4 months of gamepass (up to 3 years) so long as my GPU membership is active?

I've used both. Sony's system is not comparable in my view. You do you though.
Oh I see. You may be right. I'm not really referring to the systems or hardware. I'm simply talking about the insane difference in price for the online sub between the two. $30 vs $120.

Fortunately my subscription is just under a year now so i can add the two year costco deal (you can only stack 3 years) and forget about this nonsense until 2024. This is obviously a push to force people into gamepass and i do not want gamepass.
Why wouldnt want to convert it to game pass ulitmate with just $1

Dramatic much? If you're an existing online 12-month or 6-month Xbox Live Gold member, there's no price change. If you choose to renew your membership, it will renew at your current price.
Microsoft doesn't sell 12-month memberships on their website anymore, so unless retailers are still going to sell them for $60, everyone will have to pay the new prices once their current subs are up.

I don't think they're comparable but whatever the sony fanboy says goes...
I am a PlayStation consumer but recently bought a One X so I could get GamePass and catch up on a lot of what I missed. GamePass Ultimate >>>>>>>> PS Now.

But Gold vs PS+ are about as identical as it gets. Personally find the game selections for PS+ better but I'm not really sure how you could argue they aren't pretty much identical except one is going to retail at 2x the price of the other.

Most people on this site were buying the 12-month cards for $40 or less. Going forward, it will be $120 for a year. That's a pretty big increase...

and after that, when there are only 120$/yr cards?
i mean, it's a worth while post with such a stupid price hike...

looks like i'm not renewing my XBL accounts, pretty sure they've lapsed at this point anyway... i always find it amazing the console manufacturers (MS first, then Sony followed suite) get away with basically making you pay for your internet access twice. you know what you don't pay for on PC? to play with your friends Wink
i miss the old PS3 days where this nonsense wasn't a thing... god damn M$

So glad I walked away from gaming 2 years ago, for the off chance I want to play games I just use a PC now. Gaming has become such a shameless money grab lately.

Finally another reason to upgrade to PS5 instead to Series X
If you're choosing PS5 or Xbox Series X based upon PS Plus or XBox Live Gold, you're doing it wrong.

Another reason to switch to PC and stay there... I've thought about going back to console for some fps games, but this is just the nail in the coffin

Just curious, no judgment. Is Game Pass Ultimate better than Gold?

I think if you add Live and have Ultimate Game Pass, it converts automatically based on their ratio found in the link. For example, 2 years of Gold will convert to only 10 months of Ultimate Game Pass.

I don't understand the panic and the "I only want live not game pass". Microsoft is pushing hard for all in subscription services (see 365) and really pushing for most or all exclusive titles including. So if have ultimate and play just one exclusive title a year, you're still essentially paying the same for live and the cost of 1 game, but have access to hundreds of others.

Thats a ridiculous price increase...
Pretty sure this is Microsoft just trying to push people to Ultimate. It's now only $5 more per month, and it's well worth the extra $5.

I am not sure if the 1 month of Ultimate for $1 deal is still available, but if it is stock up on the cheapest XBL cards you can find, then convert it to Ultimate for $1. Again, the previous sentence assumes that $1 for 1 month of Ultimate is still around. YMMV.

That's just a Sony fanboy. No matter what MSFT did here, they would have said the same thing. Even if it was better than what Sony offers. Ignore them.
