Hot wheels will work with this, but they're about half of the track's size. The charm of this toy is that it has a car (and additional cars sold separately) that have multiple audio tracks in them. When they go over a trigger on the track (there's 5 on this setup), it' plays the noise. (i.e. at the starting line, the cars rev their engines and say "ready to start the show" or "let's go" or something along those lines).
Downsides to this:
Only comes with one car and in the two track setup, you kinda want at least 2.
Only 2 audio triggers play on the track.
You can make the other ones play if you set the cars in the right spot (like the pit stop thing).
One of the triggers never plays and it's obviously for an expansion set.
My boy (2yo) is pretty tall and can reach it setup as one tower, but still prefers it as two.
The reason this is a downside is because the ends of the tracks don't really line up great and feels like it's jimmy rigged. In the single tower, it all fits together nicely.
Upside and downside: clearly made to be expanded upon.
EDIT: I forgot to mention. SOOOO MUCH SETUP for a few pieces. Most of the stickers are not put on.
TLDR: Cool concepts, made to be expanded, def worth this price, and is still pretty cool even at full price.

The 4yo cousins play with it, but yeah - likely would get bored with it after a while
Very nice toys for toddler. It will keep them occupied for hours.
